Jan 11 11 10:20 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Well, after all these years, I finally have the complete set! Amazon sent it a day early, so I had it yesterday. I watched "No Way Back" last night, as a big Barry Atwater fan, and he was at his absolute most post-whatever scary looking. You have to feel for Richard Basehart trying to emote extreme grief for the destruction of the Seaview with Henry Jones whining alongside at his absolute most annoying, which is saying something. Of all the box sets I've accumulated, I'm the most surprised that I abandoned VTTBOTS so early on...the first season was great, but after that my after-school memories just didn't match the reality. Even my favorite character actors weren't at their best, which is especially disappointing since this show gave them some of their biggest showcase roles. For nostalgia's sake, I really want to trod through this last set, with just 13 episodes, but I'm not hopeful. I'm looking forward to finally seeing the Lobster Man, and I do have high hopes for Walter Burke as a terrible Leprechaun!! Click here to see my latest monster art! With biggum snow coming to NY tonight, I'm hoping mine arrives today; I'd love to get a start on it tonight, with nowhere to go and no way to get there anyway, hot chocolate, and the sound of snowplows scrapin' the street outside. He won't even look at the Lobster Man...when he meets him he just keeps going on about his business, like it's an insurance salesman who just came on board. Walter Burke's fun as a leprechaun, for about the first minute or so. I don't mean to be dismissive...it's just that it really was for the kids by now. It might as well have been on Saturday mornings. But Basehart makes a pretty frightening kiddie show host...what a strange, surreal mix at this point. Click here to see my latest monster art! His first appearance on VTTBOTS was one of his last as a blandly handsome character lead, but then he apparently had successive surgeries that left him looking as he does in his second appearance, "No Way Back." The wig as Benedict Arnold really accentuates his ghastly countenance. The best I've been able to surmise is that it wasn't surgery but the effects of steroid abuse, according to someone I corresponded with a few years ago who knew him. But I see clear plastic surgery...it's one of the mysteries that's stuck with me through the years. Do you have any insight? Click here to see my latest monster art! Jan 12 11 2:11 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I don't want to turn this into a "Thriller" thing, but I just watched "Flaming Ice" and enjoyed it...very watchable and nice work from Michael Pate as an ice man. Another case of "Voyage" giving a B-list actor a big part with A-list billing. The actor who plays his lieutenant looks just like one of the SNL guys, giving it a skit feel occasionally, but it did hold my interest for the full hour, despite plot redundancies (those nuclear tube things are very popular with the bad guys). Even Basehart seems to be enjoying himself. I FF'd through the Abominable Snowman episode to hear him talk, and wow does he look soft! The outfit looks like two big pieces of fur cut like a gingerbread man and sewn together. With a puppy face. He's like a big Pillow Pet. Or maybe a dog in a Snuggie. When his gadget almost blows up the Seaview, he just shrugs and mumbles something about "Try, try again." God, he was sick of the show by that point. With scripts (and episode titles) like "The Lobster Man" (!!!), who can blame him?
