Does anybody know the premiere date of A.I.P.’s original pairing of INVASION OF THE STAR CREATURES and THE BRAIN THAT WOULDN’T DIE?
The IMDB has no release date for STAR CREATURES, but indicates an 08/16/62 release for BRAIN. I beleive that’s incorrect, as a Google News Archive search turns up an ad in the 06/09/62 edition of The Beaver County (PA.) Times indicating the double feature opened locally on Sunday, June 10th:

However, an article in the 04/09/62 issue of Boxoffice reported that the pairing was among “24 films available during the Easter period” (other titles on the list include SWEET BIRD OF YOUTH and DON’T KNOCK THE TWIST), so I’m interested in confirming whether the combo played anywhere in April or May.
Jameson281 shared some interesting information about the film (and the abridged version released on DVD) in another thread:
A couple of other points that may be of interest to anyone else who, like me, regards the film with a stubborn and not-entirely-rational measure of affection:
*I think this may be a recent photo of actress Gloria Victor: LINK
*Bob Ball and Bruno VeSota were reunited in a 1969 episode of IT TAKES A THIEF called ‘The Scorpio Drop’ (available on Hulu until 4/30/10).
Sadly, despite the presence of guest star Gale Sondergaard and a plot that involves occult rituals and murder-by-scorpion, it’s a pretty ho-hum affair.

The DVD accurately reflected the original theatrical release. AIP cut about ten minutes out of the theatrical version, but reinstated it for the TV version--and that is what has been circulating for years. When MGM went to transfer the film, they went back to the original negative, which was cut to the short, theatrical version. When complaints about missing footage turned up online, MGM checked all of the 35mm elements, only to find that all of them were cut to the short version. It was starting to look as if the long version existed only in 16mm when a 35mm print of the long version turned up under the title FEMALES FROM OUTER SPACE. MGM transferred the missing footage and corrected their master; whether the DVD is ever corrected is up to Sony.
