It's by Charles Neutzel, with a "Special Introduction" by some guy named Ackerman. The cover art (by Robert Bonfils, I think) is pretty wild, featuring the Queen full-frontally nekkid. I mean NEKKID nekkid. Oh, and pringly: I'll have to check to make sure, but I'm pretty sure the botleg I own IS widescreen.

However, the framing of the compositions looks good, doesn't seem to be anything missing on the sides. In fact, I noticed there's a fair amount of empty space top and bottom, lots of "head room", which leads me to think maybe the film was shot "open matte", and cropped widescreen for theatrical presentation. Would anyone know for sure if this is so or not? Anyhow, for what it's worth, my copy came from a company called "Rockside Pictures", and there's a copy from the same outfit currently on ebay, going for around 8 bucks. Also, I see there's a version from a company called Thistlehill Media -- I've gotten really good quality bootlegs from them in the past, things like BURN WITCH BURN, ISLAND OF LOST SOULS, THE CRIMSON CULT, the AIP cut of BLACK SABBATH (with the Les Baxter score and the English language dub). My guess is they're using high quality laserdiscs for their source material, and while I can't vouch for their QUEEN OF BLOOD, I'd say chances are good it's sourced from laser, too.

I once chatted with Florence Marly about Bogart, while she was wearing her QoB wig and leotard and reclining atop Forry's filing cabinets for a photography session. Is that painting by Charles Nuetzell?

I seem to like these movies that use non-American visions of the future (the two movies made from that Russian flick about the prehistoric planet, for example). May 28 11 12:44 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Craig, FIRST SPACESHIP is fantastic. The planetscapes are so danged WEIRD! The whole thing with the sludge and the 'bugs' and the whispy stuff flying through the air... I read a criticism of the art direction somewhere and I couldn't get over it. It was bizarre. So many of these Soviet and Eastern European movies seem inspired by different visual sources than the American productions. Of course most of my faves are American'British flicks--I was brought up on 'em--but the more foreign SF I see, with their completely different visuals, the more I want to see. It was also pretty harsh, the way they left a guy for dead (against their will, but damn) and another dude got shot off into space in his little ship.
