I started listening to my collection of Carleton Hobbs and other Sherlock Holmes recordings, last weekend. Specifically the novel representations. My favorite of the HOUN versions is the earlier one with Hobbs/Shelley; not the three part one for Public Radio. That one has the Coyote sounding hound. No, this one is longer, includes Mr. Franklyn, and the hound sounds much more frightening. Second to that is the Alec McCowen one I have [I don't have my log of S.H. radio shows in front of me, so I can't give you an exact date on these]. As to my favorite story, VALL and my favorite version...it has to be the Saturday Night Theater one, with Tim Pigott-Smith. That story is so well adapted, it made the Vermissa Valley story line just as exciting as the Holmes scenario. Second to that is my very long version, with Edward Petherbridge. In future (going backwards with the tales), I plan on listening to STUD & SIGN.
