Oct 23 09 9:31 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	In the MGM DVD, when they first land and look out the portal there's a jump cut in the scene which I swear had a view of the Martian landscape there when I saw it as a kid. The DVD shows nothing, just the crew looking out. Does anyone else recall a scene showing what they saw being there at that point?

According to the Skotak book, such a shot was filmed but ultimately deleted. Another awkward jump cut occurs at 54:55, during the lake scene. Variety's November '59 review cites a running time of 83 minutes, which is also the running time of the DVD, so these and other cuts were presumably made before the film's premiere. It's worth mentioning, though, that at least two reference books cite a running time of 94 minutes, including the Aurum Film Encyclopedia. The Aurum Encyclopedia also describes the Martians as "giants" despite the fact that every reference to their size was dropped from the finished film. Is it possible they gleaned these details from a contemporary review by somebody who saw a longer version of the film, perhaps at an early preview screening? Principles Unknown...

We see the Martian through the porthole of the ship, yes? So I'm assuming the rocket was vertical at the time, and that window would be right up there near the top of the ship. So either(I could have said eye-there) that Martian was pretty tall....Or they mastered the art of levitation. "You can't smell any reefer, can you"?

Oct 31 09 11:53 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	the Martian in the picture I posted was beside the rocket so had to be pretty huge...I've seen other pics like this in some old monster mag which showed it standing beside the ship. The size of their city buildings would indicate their size.
