Those distorted electronic tones are really kind of eerie and disturbing. I was looking for a YouTube clip that best exemplified the sound I'm referring to and strange as it may seem, the best example I found was in this trailer for THE SLIME PEOPLE, made three years later. You'll recognize the background music from RED PLANET right away. http://www.youtube.com/wa...WJQzc&feature=related Does anyone have any info on the RED PLANET soundtrack? Was it composed specifically for the movie or can those weird tones be heard any earlier, in one of the films from the 50's?

Spurred on by this thread, I watched the MGM DVD over the weekend. Interesting to see the credits only come on at the end of the movie. Also, a name in the cast caught my attention: Arline Hunter--a 1954 Playboy centerfold who was also in SEX KITTENS GO TO COLLEGE and other films. She was a dead ringer for Marilyn Monroe and achieved notoriety for doing a nudie short, "Apple Knockers and the Coke," which for years people thought was actually Monroe. Try as I might, though, I could not locate Arline in ANGRY RED PLANET. She's definitely not the nurse who tries to calm down Gerald Mohr as he writhes in the hospital bed, and I'm pretty certain she's not the other tall dark-haired nurse (Arline was a redhead, sometimes going blonde to look like Marilyn). It's possible she may be the secretary seated next to all the army brass near the beginning, or she may be one of the two ladies on the street watching events on a television, also near the film's beginning. On the IMDb she's credited as "Joan," and another model, "Bambi Hamilton," is credited as "Joan's friend." Hard to tell, though, because the women's backs are to the camera as they watch the television. Can you spot the Playboy centerfold in ANGRY RED PLANET?

I had The Angry Red Planet on a cheap VHS back in the '90s but got rid of it somewhere along the line. After recently reading this thread, I decided it was time to get the MGM DVD and check it out again. While it's far from a great flick, it's a lot of fun and visually nightmarish (love the red tinting). The score is really cool as well. Bottom line; the rat/bat monster is unforgettable! A dream-like flick with GREAT planet sets that I'm happy to have on my shelf.

There's a photo in the Melchior book that affords a somewhat clearer view of the two women in this scene, and the darker-haired one does seem to fit your description. The caption indicates that portions of the scene were deleted from the final cut. The IMDB credits the Martian voice to Ted Cassidy. It does sound like him, but according to Wikipedia he was working as a DJ in Texas through the early '60s, and has no other TV or movie credits until 1966. Does anybody know if it's really him?
