When I saw this in it's initial release, I left the theater with a feeling of dread unlike what other movies had done to me up to that time. I was 13 at the time. Over the years that feeling has softened considerably. My only real complaint in this is the almost "keystone cops" style humor towards the zombies at times, what with pies in the face and the like. Perhaps this is to contrast with the bloody horror that is unleashed a bit later, when the zombies get the upper hand against the bikers, and our heroes. It does have it's horrifying moments though. My favorite part of this movie is the beginning, in the city, where the SWAT guys are fighting the urban upheaval. The scenes in that apartment building are truly frightening. Although I'm still very fond of this, it's NIGHT that really gets me by the throat.
