Feb 25 10 3:10 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I'm surprised this movie didn't have a thread THEY CAME FROM BEYOND SPACE (1967) from Amicus is about aliens, in meteorites, that come to earth with a big construction project on their minds. Get it, on their minds? Oh, never mind. It seems that people either love this movie or hate it. Personally, I think it's a great movie. It's got that British sci-fi feel to it sort of like early Doctor Who or Gerry Anderson's UFO, both of which I thoroughly enjoy. I do have to say that I'm not fond of the ending though. It feels almost like an awkward afterthought tacked on to the end. The ending is fine as far as the story goes, but the acting and the way it is played out feel awkward. Anybody like to chime in?

It reminds me a lot of a Doctor Who serial from the Third Doctor; there's alien plagues, car chases in vintage automobiles, a hero who is immune to the alien effects due to his unusual physiology...you get the picture. All that's missing is John Pertwee.

I saw the THEY CAME FROM BEYOND SPACE / THE TERRORNAUTS double-feature back in '67 and it was one of the longest, dullest evenings at the drive-in in the history of....drive-ins. Someday I'll watch it again. Someday...maybe.

But I just watched it again yesterday and thought it was better second time round. It starred that Robert Hutton guy who was also in Torture Garden. Also note Jennifer Jane who played the French vampire in Dr Terror's House of Horrors. By the way, don't you love the music in it. Sooooooo 1960s!

Speaking of "Soooo 1960s," she was also in one of those "quintessential" light spy movies (though I'm sure that "Bond rip-off" is a label it OFTEN gets), The Liquidator. She played that movie's answer to one of those early flings that Bond always seemed to have, before the main female character or characters showed up.

Nov 30 11 10:21 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I saw this for the first time last night on Fearnet and wasn't overwhelmed. It came across as a mixture of a cheap spy movie and a poor mans It Came from Outer Space. It was OK and interesting up to a point, but went downhill after while. First of all, it wasn't very imaginative; I don't think there was an original idea in the entire movie and I loved the alien's gadgetry which mainly consisted of a "flashlight gun". The effects were not very well done either. There was one scene where Robert Hutton and another character are driving in a car in front of a rear projection (I don't know if I described it very well, I really don't know anything about SFX) and instead of the car hood you see the rear projection. This was not a momentary thing either. It lasted the entire scene. Worst of all though, the music was really annoying. Amicus and Sci-Fi don't mix.
