In similar fashion for what THE DETECTIVE STORY HOUR did for Street and Smith Publishers from 1930 to 1931. Karloff was paid to read a number of brief, five-minute narratives and stories, and they were recorded in batches. They recorded as many as 70 in a day and he did those a few times a year. They were broadcast on local stations across the country as a five-a-week series for "fillers" when the local station preferred more color than local news. They were recorded from 1962 to 1966 and were broadcast from late 1962 through early 1967. There's a bunch of them in circulation, but not all of them are known to exist.
