By the way, when I saw THE TERROR OF GODZILLA at the theater in September of 1978, I had absolutely no idea that it was playing simultaneously on TV as TERROR OF MECHAGODZILLA. And in late 1976 when I saw the TV spot for BIONIC MNSTER, I was amazed that it was a robot Godzilla. A few days earlier, a classmate had mentioned that title to me and I envisioned a dinosaur with mechanical parts. A few years ago, Tsuburaya productions came up with such a creature in the episode with the monster called "Weaponizer". I personally like to call the movie Godzilla 2: Radioactive Boogaloo. I went through sort of a pretentious phase where I always called the movies by their international Toho endorsed titles, now I call them (in spoken word at least) by what I'm most familiar with. I use the internationals when I write about the films. On the one hand I prefer the internationals on an intellectual level because they're often much closer to the original Japanese titles, but the US titles like Smog Monster, Sea Monster and Monster Zero are way homier and people know what I'm talking about if I bring them up that way. Foreign films are tough sometimes because they have so many alternate titles. Prophecies of Nostradamus has like six or seven different names. Here! Last Edited By: Uchujin65 Feb 25 10 2:14 PM. May 9 10 10:52 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	While we're talking alternate titles here, was "Godzilla's Revenge" ever released theatrically as "Minya, Son of Godzilla"? I've always assumed that Maron Films made the Minya posters and realized then that a "Son of Godzilla" had already been released to US television in the late 60s.

EDIT: Bob Eggleton recalls attending one of those Boston screenings here, and confirms the on-screen title was MINYA SON OF GODZILLA. Principles Unknown... Apr 8 12 12:16 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	^ Additionally, from May 3 to May 31, 1971, the film was listed in the feature chart of Boxoffice Mag. as MINYA, SON OF GODZILLA and scheduled for a June release. From June 7 to July 26, it was listed under the title TERROR OF GODZILLA, still a June release. Starting with the August 2 issue, the film was listed as GODZILLA'S REVENGE with an August release date.

I guess it was originally released as Minya Son of Godzilla, then it was recalled early in its release and reissued with the new title of Godzilla's Revenge where it went nationwide on a double bill with Island of the Burning Damned. (every poster I've seen of Godzilla's Revenge had it paired up with Island of the Burning Damned. And every trailer I've seen promotes the two together.). I thought the poster (as seen in newspaper ads) for GHIDRAH THE THREE-HEADED MONSTER was the greatest piece of artwork I ever saw -- at age 5, and I'd kill for a poster now! I assumed that this was such a mind-numbingly powerful monster, it got top billing and Godzilla was just a guest star! So, anyway, I think I'll call G RAIDS AGAIN "THE VOLCANO MONSTERS" from now on. And how about those ads for the 8mm film version that had a picture of Varan instead of Anguirus?

I have the trailer in one of my sci-fi trailer compilation DVD's that I bought off of Ebay back in the early 2000s. The trailer promotes both films together. I also have the trailer for Monster Zero that promotes it with War of the Gargantuas as well. I've seen edited versions of that trailer on youtube that removes the second portion of it but the one on my disc has both films together. The Catch of the Day!

It's the work of the second Film Ventures International. I say "second" because the original company using that name was purchased by the INI Corporation (which I believe is now known as Liberation) after it went bankrupt in the 80's. The new FVI was fond of taking movies they claimed were in the public domain and slapping on new title sequences using footage from other movies in order to copyright the new version. This is how MST3K wound up playing GODZILLA VS. THE SEA MONSTER and MAROONED (under the STRANDED IN SPACE title). GODZILLA VS. THE SEA MONSTER was one of the rare exceptions when the new FVI kept the original title. Although the EastWest DVD uses the GAMERA STRIKES BACK title, it merely uses a newly inserted title card on the WAR OF THE MONSTERS print rather than the "FVI" version that has a title sequence using footage from GHIDRAH, THE THREE-HEADED MONSTER! Oh, and get this: If you search the records of copyright.gov, you'll see that the new FVI registered a copyright for THE DECAPITATOR, which is merely THE BEING with a new title sequence! But if you search for THE BEING, you'll see that it's copyrighted...
