I found reference in the Chicago Sun-Times, Dec. 21, 1969 with Ken Roady (aka Carmen Nigro) claiming he was in the "suit" and Armstrong and Wray didn't know how much they owed him for his performance. He even had the gall at one time to sign autographs as "King Kong"! This wasn't at all part of the De Laurentiis hype machine. Just an elderly opportunist who knew his "Barnum". The Catch of the Day!

Indeed. There was one afternoon in Boston where I sat at a table with about a dozen 'journalists' -- all of whom almost arrogantly refused (because they were professional `journalists') to tape-record our interview. (I might add that I was slightly late for the interview, because I was trying to steal some quality time at the nearby Museum of Comparative Zoology at Harvard.)Anyway, I got to the restaurant, sat down, we all ordered our overpriced lunches -- then someone asked me, "Don, what was your involvement in BABY?" I replied that I wasn't involved ... that I was just hired to go on tour and promote the film.Everyone scribbled down their notes, some in shorthand. When the interviews saw print, one quoted me as stating that I was the dinosaur consultant on BABY ... another had me claim to have done the special effects ... another that I directed the movie and that a sequel was already in pre-production. So much for accuracy in interviews! As to Nigro, the Chicago Sun-Times article that I clipped included a great front-view/full body photo of him wearing the ape suit. If I ever come across it (and don't forget), I'll scan and post it.Don
