Aug 19 07 11:45 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	A very effective horror movie from the 70s minus any skin, blood or guts. It can happen. I really like the island setting, as it gives that dreaded sense of isolation. Which is the aspect that I liked about the recent film, 'The Descent'. John Carradine and Peter Cushing towards the end of their horror careers, but nothing embarrassing here I don't think. A pretty enthusiastic thumbs up, here. Any thoughts?

Aug 23 07 12:07 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	This may have been the first Blue Underground DVD I ever bought, and boy did they treat the film right! SHOCK WAVES is sort of an overlooked little gem and, out of all the "Nazi Zombie" films, is one of the better-crafted (IMHO). This is a film that really cries out to be seen at the drive-in as part of a double, or triple, feature. I don't know if it's because so many newer horror films have such a dark look to them, but a lot of current genre films don't work as well/look as good on drive-in screens these days.

The film stands on it's own, a diamond in the rough of horror films from that time period. Proof that you CAN make a scary, effective film on a relatively low budget. Just did it here because I'd seen it done elsewhere and thought, perhaps, that had become the norm.

We've got what, ZOMBIE LAKE (Jess Franco & Jean Rollin!), OASIS OF THE ZOMBIES (Franco again)...have not really tried to track them all down for video viewing, but I know there are more.

Aug 29 07 8:35 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	From what I recall, this was good, atmospheric chiller. One that I'm going to have to make it a point to see again after all these years. While it's true that the film doesn't have any nudity, there is that nice long sequence of the young, well built Brook Adams swimming around in a revealing two piece. Which was MORE than enough to make the flick worthy of multiple viewing on HBO for this particular then-seventeen year old back in '78. LOL I LIVE IN THE WEAK & THE WOUNDED

I didn't know anything about it and was pretty jazzed when I first saw the nazi-shocktroops make their appearance. The creepiest scene, I think, is when Peter Cushing realizes the deadtroopers are on the move and he chases them down. Unable to catch up with them he stops to take a drink out of a pond only to be pulled under by one of the undead.

Apr 12 08 6:01 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	It benefits from the locations: the wrecked ship hulking in the water, the submarine wreck (probably not a sub, but it is under water :), and the house on the island add a lot of value. Having a good eye is half the game, or more, depending on your budget. The underwater photography & zombiewalking is very cool, as well: and the surfacing sequences work just as well here as they did for the Creature or Hammer's Mummy. (I've only given this half an eye, myself -- my wife convinced me to go to sleep at 4am, rather than watching the rest of this the other night. But it met my admittedly low expectations very well, and I'm keen to finish it off.) Barry M.

The sight of these blonde German soldiers walking stolidly along an obvious real ocean floor is unnerving and almost poetic. SHOCK WAVES is the best aquatic Nazi zombie movie so far. (There are others.)
