Hi, I had this wooden cabinet custom-made before Christmas to house the favourites of my collection.
Here's a nice signed portrait of Boris Karloff
from the late 1930's / early 1940s... and his personal Ronson cigarette lighter. The lighter is from the 1950s and celebrates the victories of the Surrey
County Cricket Club.
Here's Karloff's personally
owned scrapbook from his Anchorage perfromance of "Arsenic and Old Lace". It's filled with newspaper clippings and original photos from 1957.
Frank Brink directed the production (he's featured in the Karloff episode of This Is Your Life) and Brinks' wife, Jo, painted the front cover and lined
it with fur. It was the first time such a big movie star had performed in Alaska.
Here's a look inside...
I enjoy owning something that Boris Karloff
actually owned, himself. He's my favourite actor and I've been a fan since I was nine! Here's a self portrait by Vincent Price. As well as being an
art collector, Price had a flair with drawing, too!
And finally here's a
portrait of Bela Lugosi, once owned by The Great Man, himself. It has his faint autograph on it. It was signed for the fan club Richard Sheffield started on
Lugosi's behalf in the 1950s. A space has been left for Sheffield to write in the new member's name... it's remained blank because Lugosi died.
Sheffield gave it to Forrest J Ackerman in 1962, where it stayed for decades as part of the Ackermansion. The UV lights of the Ackermansion caused the
handwriting to fade. Ackerman's handwriting is en verso. The picture can be seen on a bookcase in the "Hooray For Horrorwood" documentary.
These are my treasures. They give me a lot of pleasure!
