It would be a nice bonus if VCI included the songs American International released as tie-ins with HORRORS OF THE BLACK MUSEUM and THE HEADLESS GHOST. Performed by The Nightmares, the sides (same titles as the films) have a Coasters or Cadillacs feel to them. Pretty good, too. The Nightmares was a group of musicians fronted by Jimmie Maddin. Maddin blew sax and was also a vocalist -- he's the singer that appears at the party in GHOST OF DRAGSTRIP HOLLOW. Maddin also ran a jazz club in the LA area for quite a few years until his death. Some critics felt it was one of the few authentic jazz clubs left. I had the opportunity (thanks to Tom Weaver) to exchange emails with Jimmie Maddin about The Nightmares some years ago; he struck me as a nice guy and I got the impression he might be a little crusty and colorful. He was especially interested in the fact that a number of spook record comps were including his Nightmares songs. GARY L. PRANGE "Sic gorgiamus allos subjectos nunc." I do not remember giving anyone permission to use it. I guess they figure in Germany that it is okay to steal songs from U.S. artists after they have passed away, since European laws are different. They will soon find out that it isn't so. My father never meant for Bear Family Records to profit from his music. The royalties belong to me.

The song itself is both a great celebration and lampooning of monster movies. The opening speech is great. "Does anybody like monster movies? I LOVE monster movies. I simply adore monster movies. And in the case of a monster movie, the cheaper they are, the better they are. And true cheapness in the case of a monster movie has nothing to do with the budget of the film, although it helps. But true cheapness is exemplified by visible nylon strings attached to the jaw of a giant spider." And then follows the most hilarious breakdown of the climactic scene in It Conquered the World ever, and then a song detailing the highs and lows that are all part of the joy of monster cinema, and the impending terror of Frunobulax, a giant poodle dog.

It's just SO incredible how much music and movies there are, which you desperately would want to check out... I have to admit though that i don't have the energy for doing much of that at the moment, so instead i will pose a simple question: In probably the first comment to this thread the author said that he wasn't interested in hearing about things like "who's you favourite goth band?". Well...in fact i am some curious about what people here think about such genres as goth rock, neo folk and industrial? Since i used to help organizing and dj'ing within this 5-10 years ago, i actually find this subject interesting, so could someone please give me a link to a thread about this here on this board, if it exists. Jan PS: What are your thoughts about Type O Negatives soundtrack to Nosferatu? Personally i LOOOVE Type O Negative, and Nosferatu is one of my all-time top 5 movies, but...this combination just doesn't work. It just spoils the movie by making it feel much too modern.
