Dec 26 05 4:01 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	THEM!..What a wonderfully constructed movie.Everything bout' it fell into a near perfect place.Direction,very good script,the actors working seamlessly with eachother..just a great viewing experience.Im so sad to learn the fate and tortured life of Onslow Stevens.I can remember watching this film as a child and hearing Onslows distintive voice..and putting 2 & 2 together realizing he was the Dr. Edelmann I loved so much in House Of Dracula(even if he did kill my brother)just very sad indeed.I always get a kick out of pajama-clad Fess Parker trying to confince everyone hes not crazy.and the scene with the homeless drunk vet in the hospital ward telling Arness & Whitmore "the planes seemed to small for the ants to get into..Make me a sergeant & gimmie the booze,make me a sergeant & gimme the booze.I love it!

I didn't see it mentioned here, but isn't Leonard Nimoy a radio operator? And wouldn't this scene pre-date his sci-fi star turns in ZOMBIES OF THE STRATOSPHERE and (somebody correct me if I'm wrong, because I've never seen it written anywhere and I don't believe Nimoy admits it) THE BRAIN EATERS?

Dec 31 05 2:40 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	ZOMBIES OF THE STRATOSPHERE--1952 THEM!--1954 I talked to Nimoy about THE BRAIN EATERS once; it's included on his official filmography. Even though on screen he's billed as "Nemoy." Once when I was working for Forry Ackerman, some proto-Trekkies showed up hoping to find stills of Leonard Nimoy. I asked if they knew about ZOMBIES OF THE STRATOSPHERE. Of course, they replied. How about KID MONK BARONI? They rolled their eyes; EVERYone knows about KID MONK BARONI, they said. Knowing THEM! was being telecast at that moment, I asked if they'd spotted him in that movie. He's not in THEM! they said. We were standing in front of the TV. I turned it on, THEM! was playing--and it was Nimoy's scene at that very moment. The young women were impressed, asked how the heck I had done that. I smiled condescendingly; it's easy when you know how, I said. Telling them it was a lucky coincidence would have been the truth, but not as impressive.

Has anyone heard any evidence of this? I don't like to propagate rumours but, thinking about it, it's just that it was made during the 3-D boom, and the whole film production seems to have gone to great lengths to ensure that almost all the special effects were done live on set - perfect for 3-D. Where optical effects such as mattes and back projection would have been no good. Hopefully you've all seen the version where the opening title is in colour?

Then, Warner finally restored the color lettering for home video...although I had no idea this had been done. I pick up a copy of THEM, take it home, pop it in the machine, and nearly leap out of my seat as those blood red letters come rushing toward me.

But not long before production began, the big brass at Warner Bros. decided not to invest the money required for color & 3-D. That is to say, no, it wasn't shot in 3-D, but much of it was designed for the process.

Feb 17 06 11:20 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I love Monster Movies for so many reasons - I love laughing at the bad ones, and of course appreciating the well made ones. THEM! is right up there with the very best , everything about it smacks of quality . I've just finished watching it yet again and loved every minute. Every time I watch it I discover and enjoy a different part. This time round it was Dr Medford being taught the correct radio etiquette in the helicopter "if you're finished say over and out", and for some reason I found the expression on 'Sarge's face really funny in one close-up when he's interviewing the drunk in hospital (he rolls his eyes a lot.What a great face). Plus,I never realised that he was also in The Shawshank Redemption! I'm beginning to ramble. Let me end on a question:- Where did the title of the movie come from? How early in the planning stages for the film was it decided?
