Many years ago one of the smaller indi theatres near me would hold an annual 24 hr SciFi festival. If I remember correctly it was something like 5 movies for $ 25.00, or all 24 hrs (including a bacon & egg breakfast) for $ 40.00, so bring along a sleeping bag and enjoy non-stop SciFi  ....

While most of the movies shown were the usual suspects like Terminator / Aliens / Dune / Robo Cop and Star Wars, some early classics like Them / The Time Machine / Journey to the Centre of the Earth / Forbidden Planet / The Thing From Another World and Earth Vs The Flying Saucers were sprinkled through for flavour, or some would say just padding.

Anyway, the 3 older movies best received by the mostly younger audience seemed to be:

The Thing From Another World: I'm sure they found some of the special effects a little cheesy, giggles would break out,  but in general they seemed to get into the general atmosphere this movie does generate, and for some reason really like the scene in the beginning of the film were the base commander would yell "shut the door" ... yelling out the same line most every time there was a scene with a door in it. Hmmm, that maybe the basis of a good drinking game .

Earth Vs The Flying Saucers: The scenes of the flying saucers flying, when we see the aliens, the "ping ping" sounds effects (lots of attempts to make the same sound filtered around the young'ens), and especially when the flying saucers are being shot down and crashing into buildings were the scenes that got the best reactions with this movie ... no giggles about the special effects from them at all during this movie.

However, the movie in this trio that was best received was:

Them: They all laughed (with what seemed to be enjoyment) at the sight of giants ants, and seemed to really like the high pitched screeching sounds effects used for ants (again lots of attempts at the making that sound). What they really got a real blast ( no pun intended) out of though were the scenes of ants being decimated by a flame thrower or machine gun fire ... always applause and whistles after those scenes.
