i remember it as i very much enjoyed monsterfest, but my allegiance to them ended after i saw the first commercial they ran.Lunkenstein wrote:Anyone remember MonsterFest 2000? AMC ran an online contest that year. I finished in the top 100 winning my first DVD player and the original Lugosi DRACULA DVD. That Panasonic player is still going strong, so I guess I can still be a smidgen grateful to AMC even though I don't watch the channel anymore.

I remember the early years of AMC, when they just showed public domain stuff, like the stuff you'd find in the VHS bargain bins for $5, but still okay for occasional viewing. A few years later, they expanded, and had a very nice slate of films up through about 1970. It was on basic cable, with no commercials, and the best bargain on television. That was their golden age. In addition to the almost-complete Tarzan repertoire, they showed most of the Universal classic horror films as well. What was stunning was how swiftly AMC plunged to the depths of submediocrity once the first commercial appeared. For a few weeks, they minimized the interruptions, but it wasn't long before it was indistinguishable from the USA channel . . . particularly as they now had lots of "recent" movies (like, who cares about these?) , trimmed into 10-minute segments, with garish animated adverts running over the film as well. Censored too.Bah. Anything I happen to get caught watching on AMC, I just consider it a long trailer fror the film in question. If it looks promising, I'll seek it out in decent form. But almost all of their titles are trash.
