Maybe he should. Or maybe he should adapt somebody's elses novel or short story. His more recent stories don't feel consequential enough. I started a thread somewhere on this forum "does the power of suggestion still scare you?" I think the fact that now that audiences have seen everything done in terms of explicitness and grossness that many people no longer know how to receive subtlety. Personally I really value a talent like Shyamalans'. Perhaps he should apply his considerable talents and judgment to more commercial stories? Richard

Ahh, OK. So there you go, two more films to add to the mix of films/shows to utilize that twist ending before The Sixth Sense. I'm not saying The Sixth Sense didn't do it better than all that came before (I haven't seen it), but it always bugs me when Sixth Sense fans are under the impression that this was a new plot twist / mind-blower unique to The Sixth Sense. Again, it's a personal and highly subjective grudge of mine and I admit that!

But I'm not comparing. I actually think he strives like all hell to BE commercial but fails so badly that you might well think he's doing something else entirely. But what? A convincing answer to that might make me look again. I have to say, if this really was the best example of 'art' that could be offered for modern horror, the genre's sunk. Any number of cheap B horrors of the past kill this stuff dead.

And I sold a load of stuff recently during periods of money trouble. But there's a loose picture of my dirty habits.
