Lapse of logic and the nightmare / dreamlike quality of it actually enhance the viewing experience. Lugosi, Vampira, Tor, walking corpses AND aliens in flying saucers assaulting Hollywood from the skies?!! Groundbreaking, simply groundbreaking for it's genre mixing. No one was making films like this at the time. It has too much going for it to let a few discrepancies get in the way. The literal mind is wasted here. Let the great unwashed in the cheap seats take the easy way out and scoff. That's too easy. Those who get it, get it, and watch it again. It is the one single shining example of a film I wish I knew less about and it hadn't been dissected to infinity by everyone from scholars to morons with their puppeteer hands stuck up robot asses. Those smirkers do themselves a disservice and look more foolish than the film they try to ridicule. The less you know, the more you are amazed with PLAN 9. When I am channel surfing and see it is showing, there is no other film I can think of that will get me to screech to a complete stop and watch it again. It makes me feel like a child again that knows absolutely nothing about film making,,,every...single...time. I wouldn't change a frame. Or you can just go with it (as you said) and enjoy it as sheer entertainment,Ed Wood style. I can't stand these people who say the only way to watch this movie is with The Mystery Science commentary. Thankfully not on this board,but IMDB. Or the people who get so upset about it,like it insulted their intelligence. By now,they've heard about the movie. What were they expecting? So many movies from that time were formula. Plan 9 wasn't. It didn't really look like anything before or even after. I tell people if they want to understand the appeal,watch Attack Of The Killer Tomatoes,and then Plan 9. Killer Tomatoes was intentianlly made that way,striving,in vain to be another Plan 9. The difference is clear.

It's much easier to make a serious one and bore people, or make a parody that misses the mark. Plan 9 is one of the good comedies that wasn't intended, and that comedy is why we're still watching and talking about it.

Jan 12 11 11:55 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	When I was a kid I actually came away from Plan 9 thinking it wasn't so bad. Of course now (and especially after having all its flaws highlighted in the years since) I know better, but certainly its no worse off than any of a number of other 50's monster flicks. One thing I can say is that there are parts of Plan 9 that are genuinely creepy, all the scenes of Vampira and Tor Johnson are pretty darn eerie if you can look past the cheap paper mache sets!

I've seen this movie enough now where I've pretty much gotten over the whole goofs an gaffes. What enertains me now is the dialogue. It's priceless,especially Ed's attempt at humor. Criswell's statements about the future are a great example. On a somewhat related note,I thought of something last night while watching this. Wouldn't it been cool if,on an episode of X-files,Mulder and Scully found the actual "sworn testimony" that Plan 9 is supposedly based upon? I have a very active imagination.
