After the first couple of viewings,once you get the shock of how bad it is out of the way,it becomes a familar friend. It's like a comedy. The jokes lose their potency and becomes amusing entertainment after seeing it so many times. At least to me.

In any case, it gets the title not just for being bad, but for being so outrageously, entertainingly bad. There are movies that are so much more awful that they have no entertainment value whatsoever--but where's the fun in dwelling on those? Legend, oh legend, the third wheel legend...always in the way. Jan 23 13 9:23 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I can't say with any certainty any one movie can be the "worst" of all time. Although if I had to,Manos would probably be my pick. Frankenstein Island is another. I think Creeping Terror is entertaining,although not as much as Plan 9. To me,it's a group of movies that fall into the category of "worst ever". I'm curious. When did the Medveds take this poll and release the results? I'm pretty sure it was while Ed was still alive cause i remember seeing in a documentary that he was tired of being asked about it. That would put it before home video took off,so it's safe to say that probably those polled were not familar with more deserving movies. Horror hosts did their best,but most of them probably picked the "entertaining" ones like Plan 9 or Robot Monster. The public would have little knowledge of the really awful movies.

Mar 1 13 8:59 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	There was no 'worst movie' listed in the Medveds' 1978 book... it was simply an A-Z listing of what they considered to be the 50 Worst Films. I'm not so sure that they weren't aware of Ed Wood in 1978, I think it was more a case of holding back from mentioning him until their second book and the associated World's Worst Film Festival that accompanied it. I no longer laugh as much at it cause I've watched it so many times,but it still entertains me. 3,000 people? That's it? I guess for the time (before the internet)that was a lot for something like this. I too find it hard to believe they didn't know about the guy during the first book. I always felt,outside of the ineptness of his films, Ed had a very unique take on the genre. He always seemed to take the formula of the genre and put a unique spin on it.To me that was one of his more entertaining qualities as a filmaker.Maybe that was more due to his enthusiasm for filmaking than talent.

Also I was was looking up the long list of cinematographer credits of William C Thompson, and one that caught my eye was the 1959 western Mustang! (Which was supposedly copyrighted in 1955 but not released until 1959). It sounds like just the sort of obscure B-movie I might enjoy. The victim was buried upright in a hollow tree trunk.

Not many people realize that the film was composed for 1.85:1 and protected for 1.37:1, which was SOP by that time in the industry. Unfortunately, it has not been seen in widescreen since the original theatrical play-dates. Here are some examples of the full frame and director-intended widescreen version. In my opinion, the compositions look much better in 1.85 and it also eliminates many of the "mistakes" that people seem to find so amusing with the film.
