I've noticed lately that a lot of amateur videos of the log sequence have popped up online, not to mention of Kong in general. Here's a few. Be warned, however! They are often crudely done, though I found myself laughing and admiring the sheer love of the original movie that went into the making of them. I focused on the log sequence/spider pit because that's what I would have done... as a kid, I tried to recreate my own photo of the log sequence with polaroids of my friends that I cut up and put on a photo of a log (actually, a stick). I thought about mentioning you as well, but I think you've already got a thread on here, and your stuff is much more professional than this. This thread is strictly fun amateur stuff. There was a really horrible one I didn't post, it was that bad. The only rule is it has to have a certain charm... you can see all these from searching "king kong log scene" or some variation. A perfect Monster has no end...

This just goes to prove how much John Barry's score�helped carry Kong '76, because it makes this�clip good. Also, the timing of the sound effects are done really well! Oh, and before anyone starts on me ..... I am a Kong '76 fan. ��

Jun 4 10 2:34 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I have done home-made animated movies since I was a young child after being inspired by among others Kong 33 and the many Harryhausen movies. I think it feels great that there still are a lot of young people out there who loves the good old-fashioned stop motion effects and helps this art form stay alive, even though we live in a world of CGI. Nowadays one single guy can sit by a computer for a couple of days just pressing some buttons and making an entire movie this way, while in the days of stop-motion it took many hours of really hard work to achieve the great images we sometimes now take for granted. It's only through pain, sweat and tears that true art is shown. Jun 4 10 3:27 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Just to clarify, you don't just sit at a computer and push buttons and your animation magically happens. You still have to model, texture/paint, rig, animate, light, make keyframes. And you still have to move your puppet manually. Just not one frame at a time. Not, by any means belittling stop motion. I love stop motion and have the utmost respect for those animators. To be honest, I don't know how they do it! But, computer animation may be "easier" in certain aspects, but it's certainly not "easy". Nice animation, BTW...

Jun 4 10 5:43 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I did not mean to say that CGI is easy to work with, I'm sure it is very hard to create such stunning images that we see in today's movies (and it seems you know more about the specific ways of working with CGI than I do, so I won't question it too much). But to me it seems that today's moviemakers rely too much on the amazing special effects to "carry the movie", if you understand how I mean (my english is not that good). In many new movies they hire an actor to walk into a room covered in greensreens or bluescreens and he pretends to talk to someone and then they add the other characters and the background/set using digital technology, wich I have seen in so many behind-the-scenes documentaries. I'ts a matter of taste of course, but I think the simplicity, details and most off all realism of the old movie genre (including the old stop-motion classics) is what makes them so great Thank you for taking the time to watch my video

Better than most people who SPEAK English! Yeah, I know what you mean about the actor in a green screen room. That looks like a terrible way to act. How do those folks get into character? And I do agree that in a lot of movies today the effects (which are all CG) seem to carry the movie. Many times I see people say, "The movies stunk, the effects were great, though." With the old Harryhausen movies, I liked the movies AND the effects. Didn't mean to snap at you. It just seems everyone is on the "bash CG" bandwagon.

Jun 9 10 3:11 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Hey AkwenESC, You know there are people you can call to take care of that obvious bug problem you have at your house. I do want to first comment on your CGI comment, to make the really good stuff, it takes a lot of money. Also the schedules of movies today really demand a process that can be tweaked endlessly, and have many many copies of the models to work with. I find that one person can actually make a good stop motion sequence easier than CGI, look at Ray's movies. None of it is easy, if if were, everybody would be doing it! Come to think of it, looking at you tube, everybody is doing it. But both CGI and Stop motion take massive efforts to make it good. As far as your animation goes, I really enjoyed it, a set would have helped enormously, unless they really were supposed to be house pests. You did a fine job on the models which are clearly supposed to be the ones from the Black Scorpion. Overall great job. And to anyone reading this, I am a little embarrassed, but I have actually seen all of these films before, except the bug one, too much time on my hands. They had a new game called THE MOVIES that had a sandbox feature users could use to make their own films. I had a background in film, so was hired to do some testing.�This is the first or second quickie thing I did the first day, in about half an hour. The credits are weird because�the version they gave me to work with�was a unfinished foreign localization. I was really trying to push them�to also market the game to amateur film makers, because you could edit, record your own dialog (which the program could make the lips sync to), all sorts of useful things that as a kid film maker I would have died for, but they just marketed it to gamers.
