The cast is fine, Paul Wexler is one of the coolest fifties monsters, and the revelation of Dr. Zurich's true identity is a classic scene. And if that's not enough, watch for the flopping rubber knife. This movie was considered blood curdling in its day, believe it or not.

Universal was turning out some horror/sci-fi films on the same level in the 1950's. I remember this one from Saturday evening creature features when i was a kid. All in all, there's worse films you can spend time watching, I think.

Jul 17 06 1:11 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	FOUR SKULLS was a perennial on WPIX during the Chiller Theater days. They even ran a 35mm print. The picture haunted me for years as it was never shown either in Miami while I was in college or in New York after I moved back. Finally, two years ago I picked up a mint 16mm print. We had a screening at the Chelsea Rialto and, of course, the gang loved it. So it ain't Val Lewton. Any picture with Henry Daniell and Paul Cavanaugh can't be all bad!

Jul 3 08 9:34 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	One of the things about this film that makes it dreamlike are the slightly scaled down sets. Everything looks just a little too small for the actors. This is especially noticeable during the leap off the roof gag.

Reminded me of those dull, nonsensical "I love a mystery" movies (by Columbia Pictures, need we say more?). The only thing that kept me going thru "Voodoo Island" was the hope that Boris would yell "Little Buddy!" I'm just glad that noone's claimed these to be classics that must be watched.
