Nov 9 09 9:05 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	This movie is the cinematic equivalent of a two hour 'unsolved mysteries' TV program but instead of 'genuine' camcorder footage it's all faked & the constant cross cutting between the supposedly real video & the reenactments quickly became annoying instead of producing the desired effect of uneasiness. True to TV formula every time one of these 'real' events takes place the 'genuine' camcorder footage becomes distorted. Even has the star doing wraparounds at the beginning & the end... "The Fourth Kind" wasn't even interesting enough to be considered boring. Simply ass numbing. I make a point of not reading reviews since they usually tell too much about what happens. Checked a few out after getting home from this turkey & they were so spot on I might have to reconsider that position. Charles, this was a major disappointment that I'd been looking forward to seeing ever since the first previews. Can't drive any more due to my health so I had to stay until the end but if this had been on TV I'd have turned it off after about twenty minutes.

Nov 9 09 2:33 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I thought it was very effective for the first hour or so until we [spoiler] explicitly see a man come under alien posession. Still, the backstory still leaves a certain level of ambiguity to keep all you Lewtonites out there satisfied. As for the 'Based off Real Events' campaign; that's obviously a load of bull. But it really does feel like an actual documentary and re-enactment by contrasting the 'real' events with the 're-enactments' through split screens and by adding things no one could have witnessed and casting actors who look nothing like their 'real-life' counterparts. At least we finally get to see a decent film with malevolent aliens after all of Peter Jackson's "District 9" nonsense. Although Jackson and nonsense pretty much go hand-in-hand IMHO, I still feel it is refreshing to see a movie that makes you look up at the night sky...and shudder. I also enjoyed it more than "Blair Witch" & "Paranormal Activity" too.

I thought it was ridiculous, as I'm no believer in any of that "Alien Abduction" mumbo jumbo. I thought the "real video footage" was a load of staged malarkey too, just a marketing gimmick. And IF that doctor was a real person, then she's off her rocker and is better off picking dust off a padded cell. Yeah, very coincidental, isn't it, that any time something "revealing" occurs, the "real" video footage that attempts to capture it just magically and conveniently screws up and distorts! As we left the theater, my wife (who pretty much shares my opinion) kept exchanging glances with me as our two friends (who are REAL BELIEVERS in ghosts, alien abductions, UFOS, psychics, you name it) tried to explain why the aliens are "smart" and deliberately block us from getting a clear camcorder view of their activities. My wife, unlike me, mostly kept silent and to herself -- but I told them I thought it was a bunch of nonsense. But the whole thing is fictional; there is no "Dr. Abigail Tyler," the newspaper articles are all fakes; it's an attempt at a BLAIR WITCH PROJECT for believers in alien abductions, but juxtaposing "real" footage with "shot-for-the-movie" footage simply makes the "real" footage look phony. Which it is.

Why did you go and see a KNOWN bad movie. This thing has received nearly universal bad reviews. It's rated a miserable 17% Rotten at Rotten Tomatoes. Metacritic has it at 34%. I know you have internet access because you're here. I'd never go see a known bad movie just because it was a horror/sci-fi/fantasy genre film. I'm not saying everybody should be like me, but then again, you'll never see me coming here complaining that I wasted my time and money on a terrible movie that all warning signs indicated was a terrible movie.

Some that come highly recommended by friends and by critics. I just don't see the logic in wasting time on a movie that, by all indications is going to suck, when there are so many movies I haven't seen yet that, by all indications, are going to be good. Though I've watched some highly regarded films that I didn't care for. I've seen a lot of movies, including some pretty bad ones, before I decided life was too short to watch known garbage. I don't think I've ever seen a movie that was universally condemned that I thought was a good movie.

That's an explanation in this particular case, but I have seen many movies that sounded interesting to me, but which were generally panned by critics and/or friends. In my case, I didn't know anything about the film's reputation the night I went to see it. But more importantly, I am a firm believer that no matter what you hear, you have to judge for yourself. You may just be surprised that you're in a minority who DID like the film. I thought Shyamalan's THE HAPPENING was quite a good genre film, and everyone seems to dislike it. Plenty of times I've enjoyed films which few others have, and I have not liked certain films that often get glowing positive reviews. You never know. It's really that simple.
