I've been toying with a project to celebrate the posting of my 3000th entry in my Movie of the Day series. I decided that, from the list of 3000 movies that I've covered, I wanted to compile a recommended list of 300 of them. My hope is that this list will not only highlight the most significant, important and essential movies, but also give an idea of the range of movies I've seen for this project, as well as a chance to highlight some obscurities I think should be better known.
So, over the next year, I will be adding movies to this list. For each movie I choose, I will give my reasons for the choice. In some cases, I consider the movie important to the fantastic genres. In other cases, it will serve as a solid representative of a specific type of movie. Some will be personal favorites. Some I will not particularly like, but consider too significant to omit. In some ways, I'm modeling this list off of the one provided by Danny Peary in his "Guide for the Film Fanatic".
I will keep a master list of movies in the second post of this thread, but have individual posts for each movie explaining the reasons for its choice. Only movie that I've seen from my first 3000 qualify; therefore, movies I haven't covered will not be eligible. Still, I hope this will prove an interesting project.
