(She had a website for her company, Hammer Glammer Films Ltd., but I think it's no longer online.) Back in (I think) the Eighties, she had interested Cubby Broccoli in her first novel, Cuckoo Run. He optioned the film rights and Ingrid had hoped to play the lead character, Nina Dalton, in the thriller. But Eon decided to stay focused on doing 007 and Broccoli ultimately let the option lapse. I've sometimes wondered how she might have done with the role of Ayesha, had Hammer done more films based on H. Rider Haggard's SHE novels. (Although, unlike the Hammer versions, Ayesha had raven hair.) With those melancholy eyes, I think Ingrid could have brought some degree of sympathy to the character.

Ingrid Pitt is very very unwell.
She showed up at a Doctor Who convention I went to last Sunday. I knew she was ill & not altogether rational following her stroke, she was pretty bad last time I saw her a few years back, but still I was shocked. She’d just come out from Intensive Care (!!!) & the organisers warned us to be gentle with her.
It was pitiful, she really should not have been there. The organisers were unhappy, it looked like no-one had told them how bad Ingrid really was. I’m not sure who agreed to her turning up – her or her quiet hubby hovering in the background. It might have been her, she’d brought all her usual tat just in case.
She came in breathing heavily with someone on each arm propping her up & faced with a set of 5-6 steps to the stage she whined ‘I can’t do this!’. On stage she behaved like a grumpy child, obviously confused & kept loudly interrupting the others.
She didn’t respond to the Interviewer’s simple question. Any memories of 'Warriors of the Deep'?: ‘No!’. Then she started asking him things like ‘Who are you?’ & ‘What are you doing here?’.
Really disturbing was her preoccupation with death. When someone began talking about their character’s death scene, Ingrid interrupted loudly ‘No no I don’t like you story!’. Asked about 'Warriors' director Pennant Roberts she gave a hazy account of him making a speech at a memorial service ending with ‘so every time I pass the funeral home I think of Pennant but (shuddering & pulling her coat round her) I don’t like to think about such things!’.
The signing afterwards became a relay race as they wanted Ingrid out ASAP. They took the item, rushed it to Ingrid & back again. While we understood why it was happening everyone still felt cheated that they’d taken the money & were now trying the sympathy vote to get out of earning it.
Looking at her site now I know there’s no way she can be writing any of it & anyone who’s been chatting to her via email is being conned.
She shouldn’t be doing this. She should be in a home giving some obviously much needed care. If whoever is pushing her to attend events doesn’t stop soon she won’t be with us much longer.

I learned some new swear words when Ingrid was told she would have to scrap 80,000 words.
Thanks for sharing that latest, Richard! Over the weekend I finally got my hands on the Hammer Glamour book, as well as the Hammer DVD from the FANEX Files (which has some great onscreen comments from the actress). Both were a belated Valentine's Day gift to myself.
