With the new Karloff and Lugosi titles, I am going through a bit of an early Universal period of discovery now. As a kid natrually I saw all the big ones,
however certain films like The Black Cat and The Raven left me cold. Now as an adult I really enjoy these ones and "get" much more of what they were
about. I am talking about the second level Universals. The ones with shorter running times. and in many cases the ones without a "monster". I can
also take a slower pace without reaching for chocolate milk and cookies. The Walking Dead was very nice (even the Ghoul). I saw the Boris Fu Manchu and for
some reason haven't gotten around to Mad Love yet. I read up on it to kind of re-kindle that craving we got looking at all the FM stills and never being
able to see this.
It's on my list for next week and I just wanted to know what feelings you folks had upon seeing this long lost "classic" after so many years?
Does one have to be a bit older to appreciate some of the more creaky films? Is the subtext, just plain way over the heads of kids?
FYI- When I got my copy of House of Wax, which I love, I was thirlled to see the bonus of Mystery of the Wax Musuem. Blew me away. Again - big rep, lost
film, and seeing it as an adult it hit the spot.
