May 12 10 5:37 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Late August/early September is a tough time for me as far a picking up pricey and time consuming DVD sets. That's the time I start getting ready to go on the road in late Sept/Oct, and even if I'm not feeling a budget pinch, I just don't have as much free time to put into watching as much stuff as I'd like. By the time I get back in late Oct, any big purchases I try to put off for the inevitable closer to Christmas sales. As much as I look forward to finally getting to see this show, I may have to hold off for a little while. That's cool. His book was essential, along with Denis Gifford's "Pictorial History of Horror Movies. Funny you should mention the Gifford Book. The only reason I even remembered FT was because I was fortunate enough to find a near mint copy of it on the racks of my favorite bookstore chain when I was working in Dallas about 6 or 7 years back- with a sticker price of ...$1! Needless to say I snapped it up and got a ton of enjoyment out of revisiting it again. It's been a great handy go to resource especially for the era of TV on DVD. You can find ep guides many places on line, but it's so much nicer to have a hard copy to curl up with whenever. Anyways, flash forward a couple years- same city, same bookstore chain, same time of the year and I find another book I hadn't seen in ages. you guessed it, Giffords book, and almost in as good a shape as the FT one. Think I paid about $6 for that one. It's amazing to think back to how many hours I spent as a kid laying on the carpet looking through that book- images from it now fully seared into the fiber of my being. Because of those memories I appreciate it even more now, even though as a kid I was disappointed that the material on King Kong was fluff and the only images common, inaccurate publicity photos. I've been fortunate enough to travel around the country quite a bit and check out a lot of different book/comic book stores in person. The Half-Price chain is without a doubt my favorite place to haunt on the road, and every year I end up dropping a good couple hundred bucks there. WTF?

They neglected to mention such a familiar fright film face as Reggie Nalder, for instance, and didn't even bother to point out that Karloff, still perhaps the biggest name in the genre, not only hosts, but also stars in several of the best episodes. And when they mention a director like John Brahm, they only cite his TV credits, with no acknowledgement of his big screen classics like THE LODGER and HANGOVER SQUARE. Sad in a way, since these fifty-minute fright-fests came closer than anything made for the small screen to approaching the production values of classic Hollywood horror. Still, they can market the package any way they choose--I'm just happy as a clam to have this great stuff on DVD at last. I never thought it would happen! >>Sorry guys, but I'll save my money for another occasion<< Your English appears to be excellent, todmichel, and I don't believe the dialogue will confuse you. If you haven't had a chance to see THRILLER, the numerous horror episodes are as good as it ever got in the US. I know it's a lot of money, but it would be a shame for you to miss these...

Like a lot of foreign people I can easily read English, this doesn't mean that I'm able to understand what you're saying. My own spoken English is just abominable (seriously). So, I always appreciate when English subs are added. And... I'm not alone. What about people with audition problems, even if English is their native language? And - incidentally - I have all the 67 episodes already, from a guy who sold them on eBay. There is a little logo but the quality is satisfying. And I'm know I'm unable to understand at least 60 to 70% of the dialogue. So, even if the quality of the forthcoming collection is - certainly - better, I don't see any reason to get it, without subs.

The height of the cheek is when AB provide a non-English track (see Torso or Autopsy) yet don't provide subtitles for that track!

May 17 10 12:37 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	For most of the people I know, subtitles or alternate languages are much more important than things like bonuses or commentaries. I've never heard a commentary from any of the thousands of DVDs I have, and I don't care for them. If I want informations on a movie, I have magazines, reference books, the web. A bonus can be interesting in some cases (an interview of the director, the trailer, etc.) but most of all are seen once and immediately forgotten. So, if subs (or alternate soundtracks) are so expensive, maybe they could save the money they spend for commentaries and other useless things and pay for subs unstead. Now, if they have close captions, it's OK for me - but this isn't mentioned in their advertisements.

May 17 10 1:27 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	What's $149.00 for the entire series? Nothing man! I for one will be buying a set or two. The isolated tracks alone are worth the price for me. Commentaries, unless you worked on the production, I simply don't care to hear anything you have to say. Image should have stuck to commentaries from the actors aka Shatner. But, knowing what Shatner's fee is, I can see why he was omitted. But, I am not sure if Richard Anderson was asked to comment on his episode "The Purple Room"......? Shatner would have been the only impossible celebrity to deal with, so I do hope we get to hear from the thespians who worked on the production and less from, well, non-thespians. Regardless, Thanks image for releasing this thrilling show....... PS, I have many of these episodes on 16mm and some like "Le Strega" and "The Hungry Glass" run about $300 PER. So, $149.00 is a DEAL!
