IMDB Two crew members are stranded on a spacecraft and quickly - and horrifically - realize they are not alone. Two astronauts awaken in a hyper-sleep chamber aboard a seemingly abandoned spacecraft. It's pitch black, they are disoriented, and the only sound is a low rumble and creak from the belly of the ship. They can't remember anything: Who are they? What is their mission? With Lt. It's a measure3 of how creatively moribund the genre is that we are still getting imitations of a movie released in 1979-- can you imagine what Alien would look like if it were an imitation of a movie made in 1949?

Other than the protagonists awakening from cryosleep and being on a spaceship with "something else", I can't say that there is really any more similarity between PANDORUM and ALIEN than between any two horror movies that use spaceships as their setting.

I think Bower (Ben Foster) should have noticed the gravity, though, a pretty broad clue as to what was going on and where they were. If you can overlook that (and most movies pay little attention to weightlessness aboard spaceships anyway), the film works very well. It does resemble ALIEN visually, but as Amentep says, that's where the similarity ends.

There weren't any windows, remember?

Just caught this on DVD for the first time, and concur with MonsterPal and Amentep (among others) who found this to be a very enjoyable film with only very superficial similarities to Alien. On the plus side, this is one of only a very few serious, deep-space science fiction films in many years (Sunshine springs to mind; what else?). I was immediately caught up in the "generation ship" trope used so effectively in classic stories and novels by Robert A. Heinlein and Brian Aldiss ("Starship"). Familiarity with those classics helped create a heightened sensawunda that led me in several directions as the "clues" were doled out. Good acting, especially by Ben Foster, and a very good screenplay. Only drawback for me was the murkiness of the lighting coupled with several quick edits that I had to pause for and re-examine frames to get a better idea of what was being seen. The sound was low and muffled as well, and while I have a decent sound amp system, it didn't really help much to crank up the volume. Still, I can forgive much of this because it was logical in the given scenario. Got this through Netflix, but I think I'm gonna pick up a personal copy. I believe in contributing to the financial support of people who attempt serious sf on the Big Screen. ... Reed

I'm sure it touches no new ground; I grew up around science fiction and read many, many "Noah's Ark" type stories. This film brought to mind many of those forgotten book/short story/novella titles, plus Harlan Ellison's "The Starlost" and "Firefly." I thought the creatures were very much like Joss Whedon's Reavers. I didn't get to pay much attention to the film; it was late and the OnDemand was being flaky. Enjoyed it. Always good to see Dennis Quaid.

Especially liked the aliens, their design and especially how they moved. Very cerebral, too -- almost SOLARIS with monsters -- but every time it almost bogs down something quite astounding happens. There's a scene where an alien is killed and the alien leader calls the other aliens and... Really something. One of the best sci-fi films (even if it's an ALIEN ripoff), I've seen in quite a while. david

It is a shame that this did not do well at the box office as the writer had the story planned out for two more installments, one dealing with how the ship got into the state it is, and another with the survivors coping with life on the new planet that had already been colonized by someone/something else. Still it works very well as a stand alone feature, and Ben Foster was excellent in it.

Wasn't expecting too much as most reviews I had read were pretty negative. However, I loved this one. Very atmospheric, great sets and good acting (always love Dennis Quaid). OK it's no Alien, but a great movie nonetheless. I preferred this to Moon (liked that too though), both being 'intelligent' sci-fi in my opinion.
