Thanks Bob the Human. I was Carducci's partner on Flying Clarinet Reeds Over Lankershim, and was the host and narraTOR.

My standard spiel in response to Ted and others about the length is that Carducci was of the fan mentality and controlled the editing. It is exactly the same length as SUNSET BOUJLEVARD, 111 minutes, and should have been 90. In fact I once sat down with a stopwatch and timed everything I thought should be cut, and it came out to 21 minutes, which would have made it 90.

The chief boredoms included 9 minutes on the Tor Johnson mask, Vampira in one continuous 4 minute shot narrating her life story, and that fatuous Terry-somebody reading his list of things wrong with Plan 9. "Idiotic dialogue, inept direction" etc. A completely stupid mind - Plan 9's shortcomings are hilarious when you are SPECIFIC about them, like quoting "your stupid minds" and other dialogue, or commenting on the flying saucers.

The area where Carducci was extremely cement-headed was his insistence that the flying saucers were controlled with three strings. When I told him he was wrong, he asked "why did I watch those scenes on the laserdisc 20 times, for my health?" (1) You can SEE the single string (2) in geometry three points determine a plane, so if they had three strings they wouldn't wobble from side to side!!

The first 40 minutes of the documentary were good, then it drifts off into geekland. But it was also the first documentary on Ed Wood, and Tim Burton hand delivered ten copies to cast members and others on his film. I feel like there was this slender filament from Carducci and me throwing a Plan 9 party at which home video footage of Tor's house and the cemetery was shown, to making the documentary, to Martin Landau winning the Oscar. One has to be satisfied with that because there is no money in the subject matter of Ed Wood.

Since its release there have been PEOPLE WHO DIED. Paul Marco, Valda Hansen, Lyle Talbot, Bunny Breckenridge, Dudley Manlove, Kathy Wood, Carducci ("Carducula" to us in crowd), Harry Thomas, and Karl Johnson. Long live great guy Greg Walcott!!

I don't think it's that amazing that Ted and I came up with the same amount of stuff that should have been cut from FSOH. Any but the most completist geekest geek could spot the extraneous BS, and that trying to sell 111 minutes of Ed Wood documentary was like trying to polish a turd.

Like Drew Friedman says of his Joe Franklin cartoons, the Ed Wood joke has kind of worn off for me. But I still love his films.
