The top picture shows the opened head of the vitim. You can see his skin peeled back; you can see his impressively pink brain (they're actually more gray than pink)--and all around the incision between the pink brain and the folded-back flesh is a very thin rim; that's the skull. Not to feature it at all seems to me an extremely unlikely error.

Aug 7 11 2:53 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	It looks like the same photo to me, but not colorized. This is exactly what we see in the movie, except for the movement of the trickling brain fluid. Unlikely error or not, this is the way it looks. I don't see why the film makers should be given the benefit of the doubt over what our eyes can plainly see, especially since they didn't make much of a movie despite the great cast. But whatever one's views on its qualities, the shot above clearly shows latex with a few blood vessels painted on. There's no attempt at suggesting a skull at all that I can see.

Aug 7 11 4:57 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	At the upper right in the incision, it looks to me like a (very thin) skull is visible between the brain and the folded and very latexy-looking skinl; this is just below the tips of the clamp. But I concede that it could just be another latex fold..

Apparently most of the rim is covered for a sheath that covers the brain which is peeled back. I didn't know we had such covering on our brains.

We're looking at the wrong place for the skull; the incision (through the skin) is much larger than it appears. There's a black line across the forehead; I think that was a guide for the incision (through the skin), then the skin was folded back, exposing the skull. You can see where the skin has been folded back, at the left, beneath both of the clamps on that side. They even included a few veins or arteries or whatnot on the underside (now exposed) skin. The area between that and where the meninges (thank you Jameson) are folded back--that's the skull. And it even looks rather like bone. Eureka.

So all we need is a quick photoshop coloring of the skull for others to see. Trust me...if I had the program, I'd do it. And pardon that weird typo. They probably removed the piece of skull, then put the rubber thing over the opening, just leaving an area open over part of the removed part and the rest is under the rubber thingy. I like the part when they walk through the fireplace...
