I hope when the Bride Of Frankenstein finally hits Blu Ray they'll bring out a new recording of this classic motion picture score! I love in particular The Creation Of The Bride sequence , I first heard it recorded in the Franz Waxman RCA Classic Film Scores recording of the late 1970's /early 80's ?

I also have a Varese Saraband recording with the sequence entitled "Dance Macabre"where Dr Pretorious is discovered in a tomb by Karloff , and he looks up and says "Oh , hello , I thought I was alone - gin my only weakness you know!! "

Oct 28 09 10:07 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	The Silva Screen release of "Bride of Frankenstein" with the Westminster Philharmonic and Kenneth Alwyn conducting is barely adequate. The orchestra was mostly made up of Royal of College of Music (London) players and they lack both the weight and precision to pull of this virtuosic music. It's a stop-gap recording at best and I'm surprised we're still waiting for a fully professional recording of this landmark score. I would have thought John Morgan and William Stromberg would have turned their attention to it by now but I suspect the composer's son John keeps a pretty close hold on this particular score and might not have given his permission to allow them to record it. I understand "Bride" has received a new restoration and is being performed by professional symphony orchestras as accompaniment to the film in concert. The Chicago Symphony, no less, performed it last Halloween. I asked John Waxman and if there plans for a new recording of the newly restored score and he said not at present but he hopes he can interest a major label in recording it someday. The Charles Gerhardt RCA recording of the "creation" music is peerless and I doubt we'll ever hear anything like that again unless an orchestra of the caliber of the National Philharmonic can be engaged to record the entire score. I would be very happy for Bill's Moscow Symphony Orchestra to record it on his Tribute label but I have a feeling it's not even on their radar screen -- or am I wrong???

I too love the RCA Classic Movie Music series with Charles G conducting , and so wish they'd done complete versions of the OST scores of Bride and Sunset Boulevard! Going off at a complete tangent , I'm disappointed that noboday has ever done a suite of Whatever Happened To Baby Jane musical score by Frank De Vol!!

John Morgan and William Stromberg do not record for Marco Polo any longer. I thought this section of the post might have a better chance of getting some response among the musical sort who hang out here, smokin' their funny cigarettes and bangin' their bongos. Finally, I don’t know if this is mistaken or not. Jones claims that Franz Waxman sued Rodgers and Hammerstein for stealing some of his BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN music for SOUTH PACIFIC. Now, it’s true that if you listen to the first three notes of Rodgers’ Bali Hai, you’ll hear an undeniable echo of the “Bride’s theme”. But not much, I think beyond those notes. I’ve heard/read this story once before somewhere, but I just kinda doubt it. Does anyone know for sure? Truth? Myth?

May 14 12 2:12 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Responding to an old post (well, all posts in this thread are old...) -- John Waxman has no ownership rights pertaining to this score whatsover. He is the son of a composer who has no ownership rights in the score. Franz Waxman was work-for-hire for the picture and Universal owns all the rights associated with the music. So long as Morgan and Stromberg or anyone could get a hold of the original conductor's scores, assuming they exist, nobody could stop them from newly recording the music. Whatever music rights exist rest entirely with Universal Pictures' music publishing company, and they wouldn't have a say in it either regarding a re-recording, given the fact that these would not be the original Universal recordings, but new recordings, and given that they have already been legally released, Universal would have no legal ability to stop or hinder any subsequent releases. I would LOVE to hear Tribute's take on this score. Maybe couple it with Roemheld's DRACULA'S DAUGHTER, but again, the question is always, would you sell enough copies to make your investment back? My guess is 11 people would buy the CD because of DRACULA'S DAUGHTER, and too many people who don't know better would not buy a second version of BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN because they aren't aware how unmemorable that first version is... But I would certainly buy a few copies.

Hey, as I've said a zillion times, I'd love to get more Laemmle-era horror scores on CD, be it DRACULA'S DAUGHTER, WEREWOLF OF LONDON (the score made an impact on me as a child), THE INVISBLE MAN Main Title, THE MUMMY, etc. I'm pretty happy with the Silva re-recording of BRIDE, but I would definitely buy a Morgan/Stromberg version.
