How was this special effect rigged? The tip of the stick is supposed to have a flame on it, , and it strikes our one eyed giant in his eye.
It looks like a real person here because his mouth opens and hand moves up. Notice what is the flame or supposed to be flame is gone at the moment of impact.
Down below:
When next we see him, but it kinda makes no sense to me why someone who had a long stick thrown in his eye would lie face down. The stick obviously wasn't protruding into the eye when it was removed,
the sound of removing the stick from the eye must have been dubbed in.

The make up looks similar, but no exact , to me. Could someone check the ear whorls?
I liked The Cyclops when I was young- he was a sympathetic monster.

I love how he plays along with Marty's scheme to fly off and leave everyone else, but then as soon as Susan and Russ return, he is all innocence. So how 'bout it? Was he really gonna betray the others with Marty, or was he just stringing Marty along so Marty wouldn't punch him again?
revisited this classic the other day on TCM, it was funny to watch the Lonster being so scared... I think Lee was going to take off with Marty, and Susan and Russ returned in time.... James Craig, (my fave)
knocked Lon out... the flaming stick in the eye, for that time, was kind of gruesome, and of course, sad ending just like 20MM2E...most of the time we root for the humans to win over the evil Martians, monster, what ever, but the classics do have its exceptions...
