I rented a DVD and by mistake, it turned out to be this Bert I. Gordon film that I hadn't watched since the late 60's days of 'Chiller Theatre' on WPIX in NYC.
Much of my long-term affection for films such as "The Cyclops" includes a humourous perspective for just how awful some of these AIP/Gordon pictures really were.
An interesting story is betrayed by atrocious dialogue and action. The sequence with Chaney suddenly slugging the airplane pilot with the plane airborne and the artificial mayhem that follows with the pilot suddenly regaining consciousness to land the plane made me laugh out loud.
Another scene that followed an unconvincing appearance of back-projected lizards has James Craig remarking something to the effect of, 'Oh, by the way, we previously saw a hawk the size of a school bus eat a man-sized mouse- I guess I wasn't really seeing things, now that I think about it"
The special effects were dreadfully fake, even for 1957.
Question: Is Duncan 'Dean' Parkin who played the Cyclops and Colonel Glenn Manning in 'War of the Colossal Beast' still around and has anyone interviewed him?
