I read the book first and man, the 1980's film version of SOMETHING WICKED THIS WAY COMES was a major disappointment to me.
But fame doesn't reflect quality; there are many untalented people who are famous (Lindsay Lohan, anyone?), and many talented people who are obscure.

This was a great read in 1951, the movie, unlike ICFOS, was not that great.
