My my my... can this be true? The Search function is showing not a single topic on this film! It would always receive a fair amount of attention in the Horror and Sci-Fi film books I read as a kid, and now I have finally managed to see it on Anemic Movie Channel the other night!
Quite an odd little movie. Was this an actual Warner Brothers B film or an independant film they picked up? Beverly Garland was great as always (major crush on the woman who won Steve Douglas's heart, I have!), Lon Chaney was really creepy and gross and there is just something really unpleasant about seeing good ol' Larry Talbot playing a truly disgusting would be rapist. All and all it was a diverting little film with plenty of nostalgic value even though I had never actually seen it, It felt remarkablely like a 50's Universal to me (Or at least nothing like the gangster-horror films I associate with the WB) and the final stage Gator Man oozed cheesy goodness.
I'm really amazed the film ever did recieve so much attention by the genre scholars of the 70's and early 80's. I can't remember if any of them actually recommended the film, and perhaps it was more a case of stills being readily available?
