Jul 5 09 11:28 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I didn't see another thread based on this show (though it would be hard to search for - how many threads contain the words Hammer and Horror?) - if so, just link this to another existing thread if somebody can find one! In general, what do people think of this series? As fans of Hammer, these episodes remind me alot more of Amicus' omnibus horror films (who I also liked!) than the Hammer tradition. Still, it's great fun overall.My favorite episodes are Witching Time (a witch returns from her death many years earlier to wreck havok), Rude Awakenings (with Denholm Elliot as a guy who keeps living the same situation over and over again), Charlie Boy (about a naughty voodoo fetish), Carpathian Eagle (about a legendary killer brought to life, starring the amazingly beautiful Suzane Danielle), and Children of the Full Moon (young couple runs afowl of werewolves). I also like the dour theme music, and the screepy titles are fun too, with a mysterious figure walking around the battlements of an ancient manor house, seemingly up to no good. Jul 5 09 1:38 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I loved the series when it first aired and hadn't seen it for many years untill it came out on DVD. I bought it, of course, and found quite a lot of the episodes badly paced. Having said that I still enjoy it. The stand out episodes for me are Silent Scream, Charlie Boy, Gaurdian Of The Abyss and Children Of The Full Moon. It's a helluva lot better than the dreadful Mystery & Suspense series that's for sure and I do love that theme tune.

Jul 6 09 2:15 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I don't think I've ever seen any of the mystery & Suspense episodes. in GA at least, the Hammer show was shown in two hour blocks as movies... some of them were never shown in this format, so I encountered them for the first time in this set. The House that Bled to Death was certainly the one that everyone at school talked about next day, and was unforgettable. It was only recently that I saw it again and it hold up remarkably well. Silent Scream struck me as being very like an episode from an anthology film, but worth it for Cushing. The Two Faces of Evil was pretty good, mainly for the superbly nervy performance from Anna Calder-Marshall, and the fact that nothing is really explained about why there are doppelgangers wandering about the place! The only other episode I remember from childhood was The Witching Time. Boobies, I seem to recall.

Jul 10 09 1:35 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Here's a question for Guardian of the Abyss that has a spoiler: *SPOILER ALERT* *FOR A SHOW LIKE 29 YEARS OLD* Do you think that the acolyte who ran away from the cult actually knew what she had to do as soon as she ran away from the cult, and was playing the antiques dealer the whole time - OR do you think she genuinely tried to make a break, but at some point in the adventure, she got mind controlled again (perhaps when she tried to break the mirror, but saw something in it and stopped) - OR do you think she only realized the antique dealer was the correct fit to reincarnate the Guardian of the Abyss when she saw his horoscope, and it was only then that she wanted to return to the cult because she finally saw her place in it, ruling at the side of Mr. Abyss? I think she was in on it from the beginning. I watched Mark Of Satan last night. An episode that annoyed me years ago but one that impressed me now due to the excellent lead performance by an actor who's name I've forgotten for the moment. A truly convincing performance of someone going mad................ or was he ?

It's the same with Carpathian Eagle - was the person possessed by the power of the story, or was she just psychologically acting out? It could go either way... My God, what's Bond doing?... We've seen two cassettes worth; it's been a coupla years since we saw the last one ... ... Vol 6 contains, "The Two Faces of Evil", that's a good story. As pointed out above, the evil presence is never explained, good thing, it would diminish the entertainment value. Obviously the red herring is the fact that ( SPOILER! ) the corpse has poor teeth as well. Ooops! "The Mark of Satan" threw me though. It's good and disturbing, but wildly scattershot with no true core. Certainly one to interpret. "Lord I love Spring! The birds, the fair weather, the new flowers. It doesn't get any better than this. HOLY CRAP! what's THAT?!?"

I still have memories of watching " The Two Faces Of Evil " I know for a fact that hitchhiker gave me nightmares with it's huge finger nail. " The House That Bled To Death " was another amazing episode. What with severed hands found in the Fridge and blood shooting out of a burst pipe in the kitchen during a kids Birthdays party,this show had just the right amount of gore delight a 10 year old me. I need to see this show now... Just bought the show on DVD box set for £10. Now that can't be bad...can it? I just hope my expectations aren't too high,nostalgia sure can cloud ones memories. Dec 28 11 5:22 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	No love for that really creepy Peter Cushing episode? Not great, but Cushing is quite good in it. He plays a nice old man in the first half and in the second half he is very much the opposite.
