David "The Rock" Nelson Hospitalized! |
Lead | |
|
Around 8 PM last evening, David was at the library posting on the Monster Bash Board, felt dizzy and decided to go home. Waiting for the bus, he collapsed and
was rushed to the hospital. Unbeknownst to him, David had a blood clot in his leg and a piece had broken off and entered one of his lungs. (If it had entered
his heart, I would be posting this in the Final Farewells thread.) He is in Lutheran General Hospital.

Sorry to hear this. His heart's in the right place. Luckily the blood clot wasn't. Tell him to get up off his ass. I said so.

"I am an excitable person who only understands life lyrically, musically, in whom feelings are much stronger as reason. I am so thirsty for the marvelous
that only the marvelous has power over me. Anything I cannot transform into something marvelous, I let go. Reality doesn't impress me. I only believe in
intoxication, in ecstasy, and when ordinary life shackles me, I escape, one way or another. No more walls." - Anaïs Nin

Here's what was posted on the Monsterbash Group at Yahoo! early this morning:
To Whom It May Concern, This is Christopher Kahler, director of 'Can't Stop "The Rock" and 'Grave Robbers From Outer Space' starring David 'The Rock' Nelson. It's 1:30am and I've just received a phone call from 'The Rock' since he wanted me to get a message out to all his "fiends". As many of you know, 'Rock' sends all his messages out from the library near his home. He was there around 8pm earlier tonight and started to feel a bit dizzy while updating everyone on his recent MonsterBash visit. He had some water then left to catch a bus home at that time. Once outside, he collapsed on the street, where he hit his head and an ambulance was called for him. He woke up in the Lutheren General Hospital and was informed he had a blood clot in his leg that had passed into one of his lungs. He will be there up to a week most likely for further testing. The doctors said it could've been critical had it not been discovered when it was. 'Rock' sounded upbeat as usual and has asked me as his local liason to keep everyone informed on his current condition. Please keep him in your thoughts, prayers, and wish him a full and speedy recovery. Thank you. CK

Wow! I was shocked to read this this morning. I'm proud to call Rock a friend and a fellow fiend and it's really frightening to think about how
fragile and vulnerable we are, even Rock, who is in great shape. Just shows that you Can't Stop the Rock! Our family will be praying for and thinking of
the Rock as he recovers. He's a great guy.

I got to talk to David twice yesterday, and again this morning. His brother will be taking him home today. The staff has given him some blood thinning
medication he can inject himself over the next few days, and then he will be following up with a doctor in a week or so, and it sounds like he will be on a
program of blood thinners in the future-- so hopefully we won't repeat this episode.
David sounded rather rattled and a bit subdued yesterday (understandably), but alert and clear. Today he seemed more upbeat, cheerier and stronger. We both
agreed it was good news he was being released in time to settle in at home and tune in to Svengoolie tomorrow night.
David believes it will be a while before he can return to the library, to email and read on line wishes. I read him a few of the posts here*, but if anyone
is so inclined, a get well card would be very nice, and much appreciated.

My best to you, David! And thanks for coming to the premiere of my movie BLOOD SCARAB last year. Also for hanging out with us at Cigars and Stripes in
"Beeerrrrrrrrwyyynnnnn." By the way, you're on at least one of the photos on the DVD.
I had my own near miss on July 4, by the way. Got bitten on the hand by my pet savannah monitor lizard. He hung on for more than 3 minutes before I was able to get him to relax and let me go (by setting him -- and my hand -- down gently in the bathtub and turning on the cold water). The teeth marks are still there. Didn't know until later that monitor saliva is both toxic and septic. About an hour later my whole body began to hurt and go into what seemed to be minor paralalysis -- at the small of my back, back of neck and shoulders, jaw, teeth, cheeks, eyes, eyelids, temples and scalp. Couldn't swallow for a while, either. But I waited it out and was okay in time for a party that evening. And a month or so ago I accidentally drank some Drano -- twice (don't ask). Survived that, too. Don't worry, I don't plan on being the next topic for "Final Farewells" for a long time. I'm a survivor and always have been -- one of the things I learned from my Mother. Hurry up and make another movie, David! Have you thought of FRANKENSTEIN VS. DEVIL ANT yet? (Probably already wrapped.) And say hi to your brother Ricky. Don
