I'd also like to nominate Joe Kane, the Phantom of the Movies, to the Hall of Fame. He has been working w/ genre mags since he started editing The Monster
Times in, I believe, 1972.

Sorry for the multiple noms, but I saw a lot of great genre films in 2009. Drag Me To Hell and District Nine have already had
enough attention and ink spilled about them: either you saw them or didn't, loved 'em or not. I Sell The Dead lives and breathes the
Monster Kid spirit, fashioning a loving tribute to the Universal and Hammer days of old that has plenty of humor to go along with the chills. The House
Of The Devil, another NYC low-budget indie from the same production company, was a terrifying irony-free riff on Satanism and babysitter horrors from
the 70s and early 80s.

Children Of Earth saved Torchwood by destroying it, so to speak. Tearing apart any stability in the lives of the show's
heroes gave the program some real juice. And instead of just doing the usual alien invasion schtick, the sci-fi/monster elements were a springboard to a larger
and far more frightening story of government conspiracy and betrayal. This is sci-fi at its best, using genre metaphors to explore uncomfortable truths that
would prove too controversial as standard drama. I was gripped to the tube every night that week.

Hey, I thought it was a total blast. But plenty of people objected to the hiring of Elvira over Zacherley, the questionable choice of movie, or simply the fact
that NYC's WPIX waited a whole year to do Chiller Theatre again.

For works released in 2009, I nominate...
The 2nd Anuual LIVING DEAD FESTIVAL brought together an unprecedented number of original Night of the Living Dead cast & crew, a majority of whom had never before attended a fan convention. Held in Evans City, Pennsylvania where Night of the Living Dead was lensed 42 years earlier, this event also hosted an incredible gallery showing of rare, authentic NOLD advertising memorabilia, live music, vendors, tattoo artists, special make-up artists, a ghoulish pig roast and a Halloween night screening of the film that defined the zombie genre.
The family that slays together: Russell Streiner (Night of the Living Dead producer/actor), Josephine Streiner (ghoul actor and oldest surviving cast member) and Gary Streiner (Night of the Living Dead soundman/investor and Living Dead Festival organizer) at the Evans City event. Who would have ever suspected that these nice people could be responsible for scaring the pants off so many generations of horror fans?
