But my memory is that it was awful, didn't look like anything in the movie, and featured some weird colors.

If, however, you want a more retro cover (and aren't sure if you're going to like the film enough to pay full price), K-Mart did have this for $2.99 on the GoodTimes label. A buddy of mine said the GT quality was pretty nice. But, you don't get the photo gallery courtesy of Tom Weaver on that one. (I sprang for the Image disk mainly because of that.)

As usual, Weaver is deadly accurate. Despite the carping of cranky critics, Cunha's horror films are edgy, nasty, fun to watch, and infused with the director's own unique, grimy, sleazy sense of style. The attention paid to Ed Wood's films was a refreshing diversion from the serious, analytical approach that many of us have taken to classic horror films. But I believe the Ed Wood phenomenon has played itself out. Richard Cunha---and his "pearls of putrescence"---is a fine alternative for those of us who enjoy both high-budget distinction and low-budget decrepitude. I still remember seeing it for the first time, at about age 10 on WGN's Miller Lite Fright Night Theater. Nobody remembers that, but it was a short lived horror show mostly devoted to 70s films like FROGS and DRACULA AD 1972. There was no host, only a bumper at the beginning showing woman being stalked through a maze of some sort by an ominously black-clad fellow. We pan above this scene to reveal an enormous pair of eyes gloating over the action. I loved Donald Murphy's wonderfully oily Oliver Frankenstein; he makes the movie for me. His demise amid vitriol and vituperative rhetoric burned brightly in my memory for years afterward. Amazingly gory for the era, as were shots of severed limbs and dripping organs procured by Oliver's ersatz-Ygor, Elsu. .'. Earl Roesel .'.

I got a version that was paired with Devil Girl from Mars (with a really unimposing robot). The audio is a bit muffled, so I might double-dip for the Image one. I actually could have gotten it for $1 when Tower was closing--ah, if I'd only known. Sandra Knight was a peach, wasn't she? But her character wasn't the brightest bulb. How many Mickeys did she drink, anyway? And her beau, John Ashley, you can hear in his voice what he used later in the narration of The A-Team's opening credits. I also was puzzled by the whole female head on a male body thing. That requires a whole new gender, doesn't it? I wonder, if the director had ANY forewarning on how the make-up was giong to look like, why not just have the brain be transplanted instead of going with the lipstick. And does anyone who's seen it think there's a missing scene near the end, when Trudy & Johnny are in the car outside he rhome? It almost seems like there was more to their conversation than what we see. In any case, this is much better than that other "Frankenstein's Daughter" movie. Yech. "I live the unknown, I love the unknown... I AM the unknown."

It's important to me as it was the first Chiller Theater I ever saw, in the early 1960's, Saturday night at 7:30 PM on WPIX, Channel 11. Chiller Theatre had its opening with clips from Plan 9, the Ape Man, Attack of the 50 Foot Woman, Killers from Space. the scene of the acid landing on Oliver's face from Frankenstein's Daughter and other films, too. I remember seeing Frankesntein's Daughter some times on TV when in which the effects of the acid on his face were edited out, and felt cheated. See it. Don't wait.. and then please post your thoughts on it !!!! Have some di-generol (sic) when you watch it.

Aug 6 07 1:37 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Most times out of ten, the Image/Wade Williams releases will be the best around. (And sometimes you even get liner notes from Tom Weaver!) About the only print from their line of Fifties Sci-Fi I was disappointed in was 1951's FLIGHT TO MARS, which was pretty splicey. (But there were a lot of extras, including an extended interview with Cameron Mitchell, that helped compensate for the poor print.)
