There is a lot to like about TDTWE but with it you also get Paul Birch's most lugubrious & pompous performance, and that's really saying something. That line where he says "We just might...live." is a classic of wooden acting. I do get tired of the pandering biblical references, too. And the altruistic prostitute/cocky criminal pairing is pretty tedious, as well. But I have always liked the silly monster despite the rubber claws, and I think the mental picture you get of the world "out there" that Haze's character evokes is quite striking.
I have threatened my wife several times with a Paul Birch Festival.
