This has got to be one of the worst films I have ever seen. Enjoyed it if for no other reason than it is better than Jerry Spinger or Opra, but PHEW...what a stinker! May 4 06 6:12 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	One of Paul Blaisdell's weaknesses as a monster designer--at least I regard it as a weakness; your mileage may vary--is his propensity for sculpting scowls into his creations. I think monster design tends to work better when a neutral ex-pression is used. The Tabanga may be the ultimate ex-pression (so to speak) of this Blaisdell trait. The "face" on the tree looks like it just smelled something awful. Still, it's SOMETHING--that is, it's a novel (if silly) menace; It doesn't appear nearly often enough in this movie to suit me. The movie enterprisingly blends voodoo and radiation as a kind of dual explanation for the tree's perambulations.

May 4 06 7:57 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Bob Burns' book "It Came From Bob's Basement" has some of Blaisdell's preproduction sketches, showing some other ideas of what the monster tree might look like. They appear to be superior to the bulkier-looking costume that was built for the film. And I venture to say that if you came back from the dead as a killer tree, you'd probably have a scowl on your face, too, what with dogs wanting to mark their territory on you all the time.

I remember it well from my childhood and play the taped from TV VHS whenever I get a hankering for wooden horror. The exotic locations and cinematography alone is worth the time. But as great as it is, it could use some updating. What potential for a remake. With today's technology, the Tabonga could really grow. WIth each revenge killing, he gets bigger. Change the location slightly, and you could get some interesting monster duals, Tabonga vs PumpkinHead. Two rural families in blood revenge feud. I'm digging out the VHS tape box now. Today is only Yesterday's Tomorrow

May 6 06 7:40 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I too was TERRIFIED of the Tabonga when I was a kid. I got a nice "gray market" DVD copy of From Hell It Came a year or so ago. It's a really fun flick for a late night or an early morning. The thing that really haunted me most about this movie was the QUICKSAND! That tree loved to toss people into that stuff!
