Nov 17 11 12:54 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Funny, I made my girlfriend watch 7th Voyage recently, after showing her Jason and Clash of the Titans. She didn't like it as much as the Greek myth epics. Probably because the sword battle with the skeleton at the end of 7th seems old hat if you watched Jason and the Argonauts with seven sword wielding skeletons first! I like the Sinbad movies, but my preference leans toward the Greek mythological movies also. I don't find Jason ponderous. I think the story is stronger overall and the film contains Ray's definitive stop-motion work. 7th Voyage probably has the best Bernard Herrmann score though, of the four films they made. Nov 18 11 2:12 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Since Steelworker has revived this particular conversation, here's my two cents: I saw 7th VOYAGE OF SINBAD on a big screen when I was a kid - I must have been 6 or 7 when it was originally released - and COULD NOT BELIEVE MY EYES! What a great fantasy, watched countless times over the years since, whenever it ade a rare TV appearance and on VHS, TCM and DVD. I played that London LP of a piece of the Herrmann score until the grooves wore out. The Cyclops is a brilliant creation, Herrmann's score is grandly perfect, Thatcher a great villain and Matthews a great hero. While JASON is my absolute favorite Harryhausen, 7th VOYAGE runs a very close #2.

Nov 18 11 2:47 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	It doesn't feel episodic, like many other Harryhausen films, which often are too obviously built around the effects sequences. This one flows like a good story should, and the wonderful stop-motion sequences enhance the narrative.

Add me as another big fan of this film, and all Harryhausen, but especially Jason. Those films were the first to ever transport me beyond the screen into a truly magical realm. When I learned just how that magic was made, it didn't lessen it in the slightest -if anything, I was more amazed!

Nov 19 11 1:04 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	For some reason, I prefer 7th to Jason. I agree that with Monsterpal that the story flows much better then any other Harryhausen movie. Plus, I think the leads in 7th, aside from Kathryn Crosby, were much better then those in Jason. I like Macginnis and Blackman, but Todd Armstrong was soooo wooden that he makes Paul Hubschmid look interesting (not really). Aside from that, I think the monsters in the 7th were more interesting as well. I love the skeleton and Talos scenes in Jason, but I still think that the Cyclops and Dragon in 7th are the best Harryhausen creations ever.

Nov 19 11 3:09 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I don't like the sequence with the genie and the female romantic lead inside the 'lamp' [didn't she marry Bing Crosby in real life?] but other than that, this is a great landmark fantasy movie, I especially relish the Cyclops licking his lips as he roasts a guy on a spit alive [WHY isn't this disturbing scene as celebrated as the finale to the FLY [1958] from around the same era? Harryhausen's shocking scene here was much more accomplished than what FOX put out, but for some reason, the most nightmarish shots of THE FLY remains more memorable as a work of fantasy cinema.] 'the horror..............THE HORROR!' Nov 20 11 8:38 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Ray once said in an interview that his stop motion effects were more fantasy than todays cgi. For me,that's the appeal. JASON is my favorite,probably cause I saw it so many times on tv when I was a kid. For some reason,I didn't see SINBAD as much,but it has grown on me over the years. Technically,IMO,the skeleton fight in SINBAD is better. In JASON,right before they attack,they're facing to the left and then charge off to the right,and I always shake my head on that one. Plus their demise was weaker than in SINBAD.
