May 6 05 6:14 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	What's playing now isn't the original HOUSE OF WAX, but a movie that's unrelated except by the title and that like the original movie, MYSTERY OF THE WAX MUSEUM and the first HOUSE OF WAX, it's released by Warner Bros.

It features Vincent Price in a star-making turn, great makeup, wonderful 50s color and is inventively filmed, becuase it was originally in 3D. MYSTERY OF THE WAX MUSEUM, with Lionel Atwill and Fay Wray from the early 30s is my preferred wax film, but happily BOTH are on the recent HOUSE OF WAX DVD. I hear from a critic friend of mine that the new HOUSE OF WAX is a 'hard R,' in other words very gory. In comparison, the first two films are more thrillers at heart. david

May 6 05 9:36 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	This folder is for classic horror movies--1930s thru 1940s. There's another folder for new movies. That being said--as I understand it, there is no role in the new HOUSE OF WAX that's equivalent to the character played by Lionel Atwill in MYSTERY OF THE WAX MUSEUM and Vincent Price in the first HOUSE OF WAX. As others have said, the only three things this has in common with the Price movie are (a) the title, (b) the distributor, (c) wax. In this one, as I understand it, the house itself is wax.

May 6 05 9:38 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I can't believe I'm going to say this, but as lousy as the reviews have been I'm interested in the idea of the new film. I heard all the people in the town are wax (not a spoiler). Pity they couldn't have called it something more original. ------------------------------------ "It's MORE ... than a hobby!"

May 6 05 11:50 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I haven't seen a movie at the cinema in years. And this title will be no exception. It will only be worth a look just to satisfy curiosity. And though I may find some of the effects interesting, I doubt I will come way satisfied. That being said it is my hope that any bonus material will more than compensate for this problem when it arrives on DVD.

As for the classic versions, I have them both, watch them fairly regularly. Of the two, I think I prefer Mystery just a tad more than House, probably due to Atwill's excellent performance. ... Reed
