Jun 9 09 11:57 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Many years ago Forry Ackerman began referring me as 'Rick Beal' due to my love for this moody atmospheric morality play. Directed by John Farrow with an excellent cast: Ray Milland, Audrey Totter, Thomas Mitchell, George MacReady and Fred Clark (including Douglas 'THE THING FROM ANOTHER WORLD' Spencer), and score by Franz Waxman, this now little seen crime/supernatural fusion is little seen today. Over a long stretch of time I ended up picking up the original 1-sheet, lobby cards, stills and shooting script (original title: BEYOND EVIL) to the point I know I'll end up writing something on this down the road. When Universal picked up the older Paramount titles for vhs/laserdisc/dvd I was really surprised this well made thriller wasn't released. Jun 10 09 7:12 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Haven't seen this for years but I remember I really enjoyed it. Ray Milland made some great films in the forties, THE BIG CLOCK, THE LOST WEEKEND, THE UNINVITED and a few others I've probably forgotten. I felt sorry for him when he ended up in the AIPs. Jun 10 09 8:24 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	He was a trooper-take "DAUGHTER OF THE MIND" (discussed on yhe tv movie site here). In Beal he was subtle and diabolical. I used to watch this on WNEW Channel 5 NY-taped it in 1989 off PBS Channel 12 Delaware (high scratchy 16mm used) and still have it.

Audrey Totter can be heard sharing the commentary and discussing her bad-girl role in TENSION (1949), on a WB dvd "Film Noir Double Feature," paired with WHERE DANGER LIVES. Good to know she's still on the job! "In every two-timing kiss you will feel...TENSION." And Audrey gets the leg art on the poster, not her long-stemmed co-star Cy Charisse!

A bit of trivia, this movie made enough of an impression that 9 years later, the "Father Knows Best" TVshow parodied it with Ray Milland reprising his role. Episode was "Mister Beal meets his Match"(Season 4, Episode 11. 1958)

The name also seems to have inspired that of the demonic character Nicholas Blair on the old DARK SHADOWS TV series. Wish TCM would run it or someone would issue it on DVD.

And "Beal" as in Beelzebub.
