May 13 05 6:23 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Henry Nicolella, Steve Joyce, Bill Chase & I are currently working on an encyclopedic treatment of all silent (1914-1929), USA-made, feature-length (4 reels or more) thrillers for McFarland, with an eye at spring 2007 for publication. In our efforts at being comprehensive, we've compiled a list of some 400 titles that fit - given materials currently available - within those parameters, so the book will (hopefully) be regarded as a very useful to silent film aficionados. The list of titles (sans obvious names, like Phantom & Hunchback) may be found at www.silentsaregolden.com If you're sufficiently interested in the project to take a gander at our list, please be aware that we're in need of reviews/publicity pieces/illustrations from quite a few of those titles, and any help anyone can provide will be gratefully appreciated. This is a McFarland book, so there's literally no money to be had, but we'll happily give credit where credit is due - in the acknowledgements section and under the photos - when all is said & done. Copying costs, postage fees & the like cheerfully paid, & I'll wax your car if you bring it down to Orwigsburg.

Howsabout photos from The Flying Torpedo, or a good shot of the titular Headless Horseman from the Will Rogers silent version, or anything at all from Aladdin's Other Lamp (1917), Luring Shadows (1920), or A Sleeping Memory (1917)?

A question: How will this compendium be different from things like SILENT HORRORS or other round-ups? I assume the 'thriller' designation will take this book in a broader direction? Jul 20 05 2:59 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Roy Kinnard's excellent SILENT HORRORS offers capsulized descriptions of ostensibly EVERY fantasy/horror/sci-fi films ever made, regardless of length & country of origina. We are not dealing with shorts, serials, cartoons, westerns, etc., but & are concerned only with USA-made, feature-length thrillers - either firmly entrenched in our genre, or offering some twist that may put it in the tangential category - from 1914-1929. And we're not going the "capsulized description" route, either. We're hoping to provide a comprehensive, encyclopedic treatment of everything that falls within our parameters. "There is no nose." And her boobs aren't much to speak of, either.

Howsabout stuff on the 1919 The Thirteenth Chair or 1915's The Circular Staircase? Either version of Case of Becky? We're looking for stills, newspaper ads, trade publication illustrations, text pieces, first- and second-class relics of the actors and technicians, messages from the beyond, and - basically - anything you've got. Full attribution, names spelt correctly, undying gratitude, postage and laser/xerox reimbursement, and many virgins in the afterlife.
