It's completely brilliant. I've had a copy with Italian titles for years. In fact, quite sometime ago, I traded a dub of it to a dealer named Larry Jones who "released" it on vhs through his Moonlight Video outfit. Sounds like the Alpha dvd is from a different source though equally truncated. It's a shame so much of ithe film is missing but what's left is pretty crazy: a combination of serial, comedy and sci fi. Particularly bizarre is the scene where the robot crashes the party and, after amusing the guests(who think it's not the real Killer robot but someone in costume), picks up a girl, tears the top of her dress off (small wonder the film ran into censorship problems) and then casually tosses her off a balcony!

Nov 1 05 11:36 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I was very happy with the Alpha DVD. They even added the 1922 Headless Horseman to the DVD. For 6 bucks, they added a new score. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems Alpha is giving opportunities out to composers to create new scores to forgotten silents like this, which is terrific. And that scene with the robot hanging out is hysterical. In fact, I think the robot gets drunk too.

Nov 2 05 5:52 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I got the Alpha disc and watched it a few weeks ago. I enjoyed it but it's really hard to judge the film since it is missing so much footage. THE HEADLESS HORSEMAN on the other hand was horrid.

Nov 2 05 11:58 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Imho, comparing the scores between the version that Henry refers to and the Alpha DVD is a toss up. What is good about the Alpha DVD is that the story is finally translated. Worth the money paid but hardly a great restoration ala the work at Kino. Still, if more outfits like this do things similar to this effort, that's fine in my book. Steve

Good job of Alpha putting this out and the soundtracks they provided for this and the bonus film are much better than what they did on some of their earlier silent releases. There might be a longer version than the 740 meter version (apparently the 1994 restoration) on Alpha's DVD. According to the records of Cineteca del Commune di Bologna they showed an 850 meter version in 1997 so perhaps more footage has been found.

If Kino restored the same 26 minutes it would cost at least 25 dollars. That's why Kino carefully selects their titles. Alpha, on the other hand, can release whatever the hell they want for 6 dollars and I give them equal credit to a Kino because they don't have to add a new score or explain the full story or do new intertitles for what they're charging. And they threw in a second feature! Kudos to Alpha.

I noticed that both are currently listed for sale at the Creepy Classics website. The Cryptflicks version is twice as expensive and doesn't have the additional feature. Todd Williams
