Jan 20 13 5:00 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Last year I cobbled together a video tailor made to fit the discussions in this thread, and the idea at the time was to update it now and then. I've just done such an update by adding a minute-and-a-half extra footage featuring a couple of Ellis Burman, Sr. masks. No point discussing it in detail here since I'd just be repeating what I've already written in the updated notes to the video in post #91. The new footage begins around 6:12 into the video. Attn. tony vincenzo: Please bring back the great pictures you posted that have disappeared from post #98! And while I'm thinking of it: Am I the only one who thinks the CHFB could use a Masks & Props folder, where we could transfer the existing mask posts in this thread? Monster Toys and Collectibles always seemed like an awkward fit to me for mask discussion, but it's about the most likely place we're gonna be able to discuss them on the CHFB. I've owned plenty of monster toys, but I've never really thought of masks as falling into that category. As far as the "Collectibles" part of the folder's name goes, there are certainly masks that fit the collectibles category, but not all masks are even commodities. For example there's a tremendous amount of interest in homemade monster masks created by folks for their own use. Anyone who's looked at the huge number of views garnered by YouTube videos dealing with mask-making is well aware of the degree of interest. I haven't pestered any of the board's admins or moderators about this. One reason is because they're likely pestered enough by folks asking for folders. But the other reason is because I don't know if other members here, perhaps content leaving masks in the toy box, would even have an interest in the creation of such a folder. If not, no biggie. The next time I see a horror film featuring a mask-wearing monster I'll just have to try to convince myself the monster is wearing a toy on its head! Thoughts, anyone?

Jan 23 13 3:21 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I don't think there is enough mask talk to warrant a separate folder. I do tend to think of Topstone masks as "toys." I kept my Topstones in the toy box. They were made for kids. They were "toys." A modern artist mask, like something from Mike Hill, Casey Love, Jordu Schell, etc, would be a "collectible." I think most masks fall somewhere within the "toys and collectibles" spectrum.

But back to reality: It's certainly true that CHFB isn't exactly a hotbed of activity when it comes to the topic of masks, with just a handful of folks here contributing to such discussions; although CHFB mask threads do seem to garner plenty of views from others who choose to remain mute. There are obviously better forums out there for exploring the world of masks, such as your haunt UMA (I've lurked there forever; one of these days I've gotta post!) Essentially what I was proposing with the creation of a separate CHFB mask folder is exactly what's been done at the UMA site, where it has separate folders for "Vintage Monster Toys" and "Modern Monster Toys," and then another folder for "Masks and Busts." It was apparently realized that masks warranted a folder separate from the toys folders. Likewise, thehma.net -- obviously another great place for mask discussion and exploration -- includes the folder "Monster/Horror Toys, Models, Collectibles," and the separate folder "Monster Masks, Busts, Props." "Toy" is a word that can be applied to almost anything (more than a few guys describe their cars as their toys), but among folks who collect monster memorabilia (and anything that anybody chooses to collect can be called a "collectible") I suspect that describing their masks as toys wouldn't roll off the tongue with quite the ease as it does when describing their resin models. I don't know if a CHFB mask folder would, as I would hope, generate more activity on the subject, or if leaving mask topics in the current Monster Toys & Collectibles folder is actually pulling in interest that such topics wouldn't receive on this board if they existed as part of a separate subject-specific folder. We may never find out the answer to that one.
