Don't have the first, and have put a lot of miles on the VHS of the second.... (Although didn't you once tell me LOOK BACK and THE PHOTOGRAPHER were paired up on a DVD, but the sound wasn't so hot?)

May 13 09 5:37 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I'd love to have a decent video of this. I saw it only once, at the Cary Grant theater on what was then the MGM lot. The screening was jammed with stop-motion buffs and pros--among those present were Forry, Ray Harryhausen, Jim Danforth, Dave Allen and many others. (I don't recall if Ray Bradbury was there, but I know he was invited.) In fact, in talking with people afterward, I think we came to the conclusion that the only stop-motion pro (that is, of >this kind< of stop motion) who wasn't there was Jon Berg. I was seated right behind Harryhausen, and when the rhedosaurus shows up, and is promptly killed, I leaned forward and whispered "See what you did?" He laughingly declined responsibility for anything connected with the movie--but he was quite pleased with the animation. So was I.

May 13 09 10:59 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Fred Ray's Retromedia release of it is probably as pristine & clear a copy as is out there. And he actually dealt with Jim Shea on it. It's probably as good as it ever will look, unless someone finds the negative somewhere. Would love to see them release THE VAMPIRE INTERVIEWS and LOOK BACK IN ANGORA to DVD. Well, the sound stinks in ANGORA, and it's noticeable-- but that's because it has a cheap mix-- and that, unfortunately, is the way it is in the original. I wish I could mix it over again. May 19 09 9:13 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Jim, you may be secretly pleased to know that the Rifftrax live riffing of Planet Of Dinosaurs did NOT happen. 700 or so fans bought tickets, were all logged into their computers, and ready to enjoy the show when the Rifftrax website crashed, leading to the Rifftrax gang to have to pull the plug before a single frame of Planet Of Dinosaurs was shown (and/or goofed on). A group of adventurers end up on monster island, seeking a possible survivor. They find out they are in over their head. Stupid people die. Greedy people almost die, but wise up. Survivor found, and is a survivor because they are NOT a stupid people. Moral: it's always good to stay friendly with your ex'es. You never know when they might come in handy. Dec 4 09 3:19 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I rewatched this last night (on a VHS paired with The Last Dinosaur), and it still delivers the goods. All the dinosaurs are excellent! The spaceship at the beginning is pretty cool, and using the ship-hatch prop on the water was effective (I'm guessing it was on a boat or dock literally on the lake, so the actors could just swim out). The villain guy (the big business/government type) was a complete scumbag, and thus it was great fun hating him. It's too bad he didn't live a little longer in the film, I think he would have added a little extra friction to the later half of the film's fight for control of the group. However, his death really "drove home the point" that he was an idiot who had it coming. The format to the script seemed like it was an attempt to meld sci-fi with the disaster film format, and I think it worked decently well, and certainly was on par with the storytelling and acting of Equinox, another film I enjoy quite a bit. The ladies were all lovely, particularly the busty lady who did the impromptu belly dance (which I bet is something she did in real life as well), and the lady with the frizzy hair. Of the guys, the one guy who unzipped his unitard to reveal his manly chest seemed familiar from some other film, the rest were unknowns. QUESTIONS: 1) Was the idea that this group of people were colonizing earth in it's past, a la the Planet of the Apes series, or was this definately another world? 2) Did the production folks make a story as a sequel, such as if the astronauts were rescued, or another team tries to land and has to fight off the dinosaurs? 3) Why did the one guy never wear his shirt again? I thought it was odd he didn't put it back on or take it with him, considering the circumstances. I also though the actor must have really gotten blistered being in the sun all day. 4) I tried to keep track of all 4 guns and what happened to them. One was dropped and smashed, one was soaked, one was destroyed when the cute busty girl got chomped (at least I think it did)... but I can't remember what happened to the 4th gun. Of course, they seemed pretty ineffective against the dinosaurs. 5) Was there ever a soundtrack released? I thought it was a fun electronic score.

I thought it was a fun electronic score. 1) No, never planned as being Earth, just another planet out there that happened to have dinosaurs. 2) Producer/director Jim Shea had a story for a sequel and I think there even was a finished script. 3) Being a film for kids we couldn't have any of the women running around without a shirt so I guess that Chuck might just have been the next best choice. 4) I know, it's like keeping track of all the murders in THE BIG SLEEP. I'll be watching PLANET again this coming March 20 when we do a presentation at the Fullerton Museum Center as part of their Cine-Saurus* exhibit.
