One of my biggest examples wasn't a movie or a show, but a movie FEATURE! I don't know whether it was a syndicated one, or just in my area (Houston), but it was called simply "Weird," and its "graphics" were simply a big ogre's face with a tiny spaceship sailing toward it. But somehow that got to me almost as much as any given MOVIE shown by them (including the two I've mentioned). As I mentioned in the Horror Hosts thread, the Houston area has never had a WHOLE LOT of actual onscreen hosts (as opposed to features without them), but I remember "Weird" and others very fondly.

I grew up in the Houston area, and remember WEIRD vividly and with great nostalgia. And I am constantly defending the fact that it did not have a live horror host. The opening, and that MUSIC, were scarier than any satirically played horror host could be.

Your interpretation of the opening sequence is interesting. I never saw the images as an ogre's face, or as the face of anything. The spaceship, by the way, was the flying saucer that belonged to the hand puppet Seymour from the "Cadet Don" show. It took me a fair number of viewings before that became evident, because to my knowledge, appearances of the saucer on that morning kid show never featured the lights that evidently were built into it.

I remember the images as being a series of amorphous blobs and streaks, finally resolving into a series of dots resembling the headlights of cars traveling down a highway.

The majestic, ominous music was just so-o-o scary, with its intermittent electronic-sounding beeps. I'd give an arm and a leg to have an mp3 of it. I wonder if anybody knows what the name of the piece was. I have posted to the message board at Channel 13's website, and gotten a few responses on this subject, one of which claims that the opening sequence was done live, rather than by playing a prerecorded video tape. I find that unlikely, because even to my young eyes, I could tell it was exactly the same every time.
