Also, are there any plans to release any of the Christopher Lee Dracula films on Blu-ray?

Why no official DVD release of Twins of Evil or Vampire Circus? |

The 2 Hammer films I want most on Region 1 DVD are Twins of Evil and Vampire Circus. I refuse to purchase bootlegs. Why have these 2 films not been released
yet? Are there any plans to release them?

I wonder this myself. I have a video taped copy of Twins of Evil that a friend gave me, and I've never even seen Vampire Circus. What company is sitting on
these films?

Region-Free is the answer. The Australian 3 movie set (TOE, VC, Hands Of The Ripper) is easily obtained from
eBay at a bargain price. Why should I keep waiting for a Region 1 release that I no longer expect to happen? I'm a relatively young guy, but I want to
enjoy these flicks while I'm still vertical on a regular basis.

The new HD one mentioned above is supposed to look spectacular, better than the R2 dvds. I, myself, have the Network dvd of TWINS, and I love it. I also have
the Spanish Filmax dvd of VC and it's also quite good -- better than the R0/NTSC Brazilian dvd, btw (regardless of the movie files being smaller than the
Brazilian dvd's files).

Squire Hamilton wrote: We're not talking about prints, we're talking about video transfers. When MGM got the rights to TWINS through the Goldwyn/Rank library, it inherited nothing but the old D-2 used for the laserdisc. The home video department didn't want to spend the money for a transfer, which is why it didn't happen until Monsters HD licensed it. |

Ah, my mistake.
Who knows, if the WB Archive program is a success, MGM might decide to follow suit and make some of their 'niche' titles available on demand? |

No more Midnite Movies?! That makes me very sad. |

There's a local video store down the street from me that still has the old VHS rental releases of TWINS OF EVIL and HANDS OF THE RIPPER sitting on the shelf. (Or, at least, they were still there around Halloween.) As for VAMIRE CIRCUS, I don't think it ever got a legit home video release here in the U.S. (I still have my Super 8 sound print of that feature, from back in the day.) |

When I got my all region player a few years back those were two of the first titles I picked up. Region2.

I would love to have that set, it looks like a great. I've never seen Hands of the Ripper either. I've heard mixed reviews about region free players, like they quit working after a year. Any tips or recommendations on what kind of region free player to buy or where to buy from? |

Belle Dee Bilbrey wrote: Yes, if the disc is marked "region 0" it is region free, but make sure your player can play Pal discs. About region free players breaking down in a year is bullsh*t ( unless you buy a cheap crappy player)...probably a scare tactic. Oppo are popular region free players, and Phillips can be hacked to be region free. Just google 'region free dvd players' and some sites will come up that shows how to hack certain players. |

That's too bad. I would have bought that immediately.Oh yeah!!! A double feature DVD of TWINS OF EVIL and VAMPIRE CIRCUS would have been a great companion release to their earlier THE VAMPIRE LOVERS/COUNTESS DRACULA disc. |

The lack of a legit release for either of these films ( especially VAMPIRE CIRCUS, which may very well be my single fav Hammer horror ) has been a constant
thorn in my side since the very dawn of home video back in the early 80s when I bought my first VCR.
Here it is, over a quarter of a century later, & the only way that I've resolved my need to have on demand access to VC is via a bootleg VHS tape that I owned for about a decade & the DVD-R that I've currently had for the past several years. Neither of which came from the best source materials, but in this case, mediocre is definitely preferable to non-existant. At least until I get around to ordering that Aussie set. As for a legit domestic release for TOE & VC, like a couple of individuals said before me , I've just about given up hope. Though, for the greater good, I should get off my duff & finally place my order foir the overseas set ASAP, because I know that as soon as I do, an announcement will be made for the immediate release of these films stateside. That's just how my luck goes ... LOL |
